FoodGPS Teaser – Turkey Day

Yes, it is Turkey Time. I think it is a great canvas to experiment with beer pairings. So many different flavors and crisp fall weather.

One beer style that I don’t talk about in my post on FoodGPS tomorrow is sours. Generally, I would stay away from this beer on a large gathering occasion. Too many people will turn up their nose. But if you are in charge of the gathering, maybe you can foist this beer on to the crowd.

I think a light sour like a Duchesse de Bourgogne or the newly released Ichico Highway from The Bruery would work. But a nice gose would do the trick too.

Let me know which sour beers you think would be a perfect foil for the turkey.

  1. a sour could be a really nice counterpoint to all the richness, especially the meal i’m preparing this year. When I stop to pick up my turkey beer tonight, i will entertain the concept. I wish I could get my hands on the New Belgium Kick pumpkin/cranberry sour I had with you last year at the blue palms pumpkin beer tasting, but the time to find it is short.

  2. 2 beers acquired. Epic brewing utah sage saison and the new Belgium pumpkin cranberry sour. La Canada vendome had it! Going to have the saison with dinner. Still a nice counterpoint to the richness methinks. Might save the sour for after hard work on the house day tomorrow.

  3. The new Belgium wasn’t the sour. I must have checked into the wrong beer on untapped last year. It was lovely regardless, a spiced ale that my mother tried. She hates beer, but pronounced this drinkable. The rest of the bootle is for tomorrow after work. Polished off the sage saison with dinner and though it was more hoppy than I generally prefer it really paired nicely with the meal. So Sean this may have been a tiny step toward hopper beers.
