May the 14th Be With You

Mark your calendars and ready your lupulin threshold as El Segundo Brewing will be celebrating #11 this year.

They will be bringing back two hoppy offerings from their past, Greetings From El Segundo TIPA and Lost in the Mall. I would guess that more fun beers will be added to the board as the event draws near.

Next Gen

Every year is a new generation and at the Propagator in Venice, Firestone Walker that means more IPA.

Here are the details – “Each April, we celebrate another year of good times and brewing at The Propagator R&D Brewhouse with an anniversary beer release. This year, we teamed up with our friends at El Segundo Brewing Co. to create Gen-6 Double IPA, a riff on our now-classic Propagator house IPA, Gen-1.”

Melting

El Segundo will be melting again at the end of the month.

You will find the familiar triumvirate of Radioactive Fallout Hazy IPA, Power Plant TIPA and Nuclear Power Plant QIPA on the 28th. You might want to also check out their new Strata IPA if you have a palate left from all those hops.

Can Art, Literally

Readers of the blog know that I truly appreciate the art of beer labels, well, El Segundo Brewing is going to both the past and Future with their new DIPA.

Here is more info from the brewery, “To be Post-Future, means being a minimum of one step ahead of what is considered the accepted state of the world in the years to come. This type of vision is best seen through a multi-dimensional kaleidoscope and it is this perspective that made John Van Hamersveld the artist he is. Known for The Endless Summer poster, Exile on Main Street and Magical Mystery Tour album covers (to name a couple) and the Water Tank in El Segundo, John is now adding an El Segundo Brewing Co. beer label to his storied portfolio!

For this beer, in celebration of the legendary artist and El Segundo native’s 80th birthday, John created a label in his signature colorful style, splashed with pop art nods to El Segundo.

Inspired by John’s vision, we created a West Coast Double IPA that honors the past and gives a glimpse of where we see the IPA in the years to come. Simply stated, a trailblazing classic is never out of style, it only becomes more renowned.”

Ten TIPA

El Segundo Brewing has made many a fine IPA but they may be eve better at brewing up Triple IPAs. Which is why the biggest of their Postcard series is bears the 10th anniversary mantle.

Now that I think about it, maybe the T in TIPA stands for tenth.

Double Citra

You know El Segundo Brewing, they had to make “Citra…Just Citra-ier.”

They went and double dry-hopped their American Pale Ale so that you can try both to see what DDH does to the beer and to test how much you like the Citra hop

Bear on the Water

I wasn’t a big fan of the label art on the Surfin’ Bird IPA collaboration which makes a background appearance in the new IPA and doubling down on clothes wearing cartoon animals is giving me some Hanna Barbera vibes that I don’t associate with bitter beers.

That being said, I would bet that the beer inside the can from Pizza Port and El Segundo will be quite good and that is not any Hong Kong Fooey.

A Powerful 2021

Usually the Power Plant rolls in in keg form and you get a fancy glass and a half pour of this truly big TIPA. Things haven’t been usual so instead we get it in 16oz cans from El Segundo this year. It will be worth it but make sure to take your time enjoying it.
