Review – Komorebi from Three Weavers and Coedo

I hit up two beer spots to find and purchase this beer from Three Weavers collabing with Coedo, Komorebi.

Tart & Tropical pours a pretty orange pink color. Aroma pops as soon as the can opened. Super tropical. Almost tiki drink tropical. This is barely tart but the hops add in to make a good combo. Neither are duking it out. More mellow vibes from each. I would equate this with a popsicle as weird as that sounds.

Komorebi

Three Weavers Brewing has an international collaboration on shelves soon with Japan’s Coedo Brewing. The beer is Komorebi, a tart and tropical IPA, in 16oz cans.

Coedo brewer Yasuki Mizunuma teamed with Alexandra Nowell in Inglewood for the beer that has about 3 pounds of Citra, Strata and Galaxy hops. at about 3 lbs per barrel plus hibiscus and lactobacillus. Komorebi is named after the Japanese word for “the feeling you get when you see light filtering through leaves.”

With any luck the heat in Los Angeles will start to drop into fall-ish temperature ranges because there are quite a few Oktoberfest biers heading our way as well as the annual influx of gourd beers. Speaking of the pumpkin, considering the backlash and overproduction of the pumpkin beers last year, it will be interesting to see how much does get to shelves and if it is a little less this year. Now onto what you will see this month on this blog….

~ e-visits to three of the new arrivals to the filled Portland, Oregon scene. Ross Island Brewing, Ferment & Scout Beer.
~ special featured reviews of a mix of styles with fruits and herbs (but no fruited IPAs this month).
~ Heads-Up on Los Angeles Beer Events
~ Three suggested beers to buy this month. One light, one medium and one dark
~ A Book & A Beer reads City of the Lost
~ I will tap the Firkin and give my no holds barred opinion on the craft beer world

Here are two events to get your August started in the Los Angeles craft beer world:
1) August 2nd – Hopernicus DIPA re-release at Beachwood
2) August 11th – Nisei Week Pre-Launch Tap Take Over with Coedo Brewing at Far Bar.

…and here is the beer photo of the month…(OK, no beer this month but this time lapse photo of the moon in front of the Earth is too wicked cool to not re-post)

A Stone Garage in Coedo

Now that there are two Surly Goats, I have to make sure to clarify when cool events are scheduled. So, at the WeHo branch on Santa Monica Boulevard, tomorrow night, the 28th you get the chance to try some unique Pacific Rim based breweries and Stone too.
Capture
Starting at 6PM with a brewer Get-together at 8PM, you can try the new collaboration brew Tsuyu Saison from the triumvirate of Coedo of Japan, Garage Project of New Zealand and Stone of the U.S. & Germany.

The new saison is “brewed with American Jarrylo and New Zealand Motueka hops, infused with ume plums and red perilla leaf, and aged in New Zealand chardonnay barrels; Tsuyu Saison is an enticing East-West fusion.”

After you sip through that you can talk to Haru Asagiri the owner and brewer of Coedo, Jos Ruffell and Pete Gillespie the founder and head brewer respectively of Garage Project.

The Goat will also be tapping: Coedo Beniaka (Japanese sweet potato Amber), Coedo Shiro (Hefeweizen), Garage Project Pernicious Weed (New Zealand Imperial Ale brewed with Nelson Sauvin and Rakau hops), Garage Project Umami Monster (Smoked Brown Ale brewed with fermented bonito flakes, kelp, and seawater), and two delicious Stone brews (TBA).
