Oregon Beer Review # 1 – IPA from Burnside Brewing

The month of March is featuring reviews of Oregon beers that I brought back from one of my semi-regular jaunts to my hometown of Portland and to start, I cracked open an IPA from Burnside Brewing.

Here is what the brewery says about the beer, “Burnside IPA is our flagship brand on our sparkling new 15bbl system. An IPA with plenty of malt body and thoroughly hopped with 6 varieties of the herbaceous perennial. Expect to taste notes of pine & grapefruit in Jason’s first offering.”

  1. Hey Sean.

I was fortunate enough to visit Burnside this evening and tried all 8 beers in a sampler. Unfortunately for me, the IPA was one of the lowlights of the bunch. I totally agree with your description of a quick piney punch with a grainy pilsner finish. For me though, the hop punch was much too brief and didn’t carry through, like you would expect with an IPA. My favorite of the evening was the Oyster Strong Ale. Man, that was some tasty stuff. Definitely give it a try if you get a chance.

  2. I will certainly put the Oyster on my list. Even though I can’t quite eat them in their usual form. In regards to the IPA, I am either spoiled or getting pickier. Many that I have tried lately have been less than impressive. Glad you got to visit the brewery though!
