Jason Lee Norman, an Edmonton publisher and author, has come up with an ingenious use for a can of beer.  Norman teamed up with Blindman Brewing for custom can labels for the brewery’s limited edition summer ale.  Each can had a micro-short stories from local writers on the label.

For those who love to have something to read on cereal boxes this is perfect.  Pour your beer and then read your story while you taste the ale.  I could see this being a great idea for a brewery that has a large distribution footprint that can add local flavor by having a different label for different markets.

P&P

I usually don’t talk a lot about Avery Brewing on this blog. They have kept up with innovating and the above caught my eye due to the addition of pears. I have had a couple of pear beers this year that have been fantastic and maybe we are rounding into an increase of Bosc and Comice. It will be fun to see if the combo of Imperial IPA and two fruits will meld together.

Mystery Double

New beers do not wait at L.A. AleWorks. They have also upped their design game too utilizing some bright colors for recent can releases like these two newbies….

Double Up Juicy DIPA is our Maltose Falcons collaboration. Big and fruit forward, you’ll find notes of orange, candied peaches and mango.”

Mystery Dimension Single Hop IPA highlights the French hop Mistral. Piney berry notes with a touch of bitterness make this a balanced, easy drinking IPA for everyone.”

Double the Jack

Double Jack is back!

Double Jack was retired in 2016, but like cult TV shows fans kept asking for it, so Firestone Walker has brought it back to life like a Halloween movie for a limited time. I will be looking for the variety pack that it will be tucked into along with Luponic Distortion 14.

In Bloom

If you are in the Inglewood area today, you might want to check out Three Weavers and their latest Friday / Brewery Only release. “Yakima Bloom is a nod to the hard working hop growers of the Northern Hemisphere – our fresh hop pale ale is made with freshly picked Citra hops and is perfect for celebrating the end of the harvest season.” We don’t get the level of fresh hop beers that Oregon and Washington get so, hop on it.

Don’t Forget to CC

Angel City has done a recipe refresh on their Do Not Reply All, taking it out of the Double Dry Hopped realm and over into the hazy category.

The new Do Not Reply All is brewed with Ekuanot, El Dorado and Simcoe hops, leading to “tropical fruit and pineapple notes, a creamy mouthfeel and dry finish”.

Coast to Coast CANarchy

One of the benefits of a network of breweries banded together is getting beers from out of state and now CANarchy and their IPA Mixed Pack will get us some Deep Ellum beer since we get the other (3) already.

Expatriate IPA, Jai Alai IPA, Can-O-Bliss IPA join the following:

“Deep Ellum IPA is loaded with American hops for a bitter punch. Over-the-top tropical fruit, citrus, pine and floral aromas and flavors make this 7% ABV IPA big and potent enough to bear Deep Ellum Brewing Company’s hometown name. Brewed in the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas…”
