A Beer & A Podcast – Caliphate

So. No this is not a cheery uplifting podcast. But sometimes you do need to listen to conversations. And this is one about ISIS and their ideology and recruiting and treatment of people. So head over to wherever you stream/download your podcasts and listen to Caliphate with your guide Rukmini Callimachi as she looks at this fringe group from a new and in depth angle.

No, I am not going to recommend a single brewery for this podcast. What I want you to do though, is to pick a style of beer that you hate. I mean really hate. The beer style that drives you crazy. Drink that beer. Review that beer. In your head or in on paper or on social media. But give it a fair shake. Don’t be the Untappd reviewer who gives 1 star to a beer and then says that he doesn’t like the style. Point out what you, personally, don’t like and then recommend what you think might make it better.

You will be hearing the word conversation a lot this month. We all need to converse more. Listen more. Agree to disagree more and then shake hands. Tell that hated beer style your thoughts and then part ways amicably.

Bloggers to Now

With the completion of the 2018 Beer Bloggers Conference, changes are afoot. The big news is that the more vague name of Beer Now has been adopted. How that includes social influencers (feel dirty just typing that) along with bloggers and writers is a bit baffling to me. Sounds like a delivery service.

The actual exciting news is that the conference will be in Montana. In Great Falls to be exact and the Montana Beer Festival is on the itinerary.

The conference will be held from June 6th to the 8th, next year. With more details to come as the event draws closer.

One other thing to mention, the price to register really ramps up hard. So, make your decision soon or become comfortable paying more for deciding later.

The Classy Alcoholic

A side benefit of L.A. Beer Week is running into other beverage people that you might not have met yet, like ….

Head over to the Classy Alcoholic Facebook presence as well as other social media to kinda/not kinda see and read about the beer scene in Arizona.

A Beer & A Podcast – Lost Notes

L.A. is blessed with two large NPR stations. KPCC broadcasting from Pasadena and the music-centric KCRW from Santa Monica.

That is the segue to this month’s podcast, Lost Notes.

Basically it is the stories behind the music. I groaned when I saw that one was about the oldie Louie, Louie but that was a seriously fascinating look at a song and how it got stuck in our collective heads. The fact that one version became famous despite being poorly done is amazing.

Later shows delve into Johnny Cash, Captain Beefheart and New Edition. Eclectic to say the least.

And to drink? Well if you type eclectic, music and beer into Google, I bet that Dogfish Head would come up in the top 5, so look for one of their music collaboration beers or look for their Mixed Media wine/beer hybrid and learn some music and beer history.

Dryuary

I have known a few people who have taken January off from beer. I hadn’t heard the term(s) Dryuary or Drynuary but since I like to keep my own statistics, it will be fun to see how this experiment goes….click HERE for the intro post.
