Beer Hop in L.A.

Want to get out and taste beer in L.A. but you don’t want to fight traffic?

Well, now you can call L.A. Beer Hop. Motto: We have a bus. LA has beers. We’re going to take you to all of them.

“There is a fast-growing, delicious craft beer scene in Los Angeles. We’ve got breweries, beer bars, craft brew festivals, and 5-course meals with beer pairings. But, LA is also 500 square miles… that’s where we come in.

We are a charter bus company dedicated to bringing you to all of the best craft beer destinations and events in Los Angeles. We run public and private tours in our 15-passenger bus. Each tour has 3 destinations, lasts approximately 3 hours, and includes all beer tastings and a LA Beer Hop glass.”

Certified LA

Every day brings more crafty-ness to the L.A. area. The momentum is still building here in the Southland and here is another example.

Certified Market is a Monrovia based bottle shop that has been serving their corner of the craft beer world since 2005. And I am just now hearing about it!

They have over 200 bottles to choose from so you won’t go away empty handed.

TAPS + Far Bar

Tonight, yes tonight at Far Bar in Little Tokyo of L.A. ! Get your fix of some rarely seen in Los Angeles TAPS beers from the wonderful Victor Novak….

Here is the List:
Remy w/Balinese Coffee ( Espresso infused Bourbon-Barrel Aged Stout)
Taps Double IPA
Obscura (Euro Dark Lager)
Crystal Pils and
Cream Ale

I highly recommend ALL of these beers. But if I had to pick one. Get the REMY!

Join us for a night with Victor Novak and his award winning beers. We’ll be tapping a very special keg of Remy (2010 GABF Silver Medal Winning Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout). We’ll have five other Taps beers on as well this evening. So come and enjoy some outstanding beers with one of our favorite brewers.

1 Tried – Hermosillo

I finally got around to grabbing a beer at the newHermosillo in Highland Park.

It is located in the gentrifying Highland Park boulevard of York. Where you can also imbibe at Maximilliano and the York on York. It is a nice and well lit place with a large and pretty dark wood bar that takes up most of the space.

I like the outward street view stools and the old school banquette seating and most importantly, the 12 tap beer list is pretty solid with Eagle Rock, Green Flash and Port (I had the 6th anniversary DIPA) pouring. And in a cool touch the list is beamed onto the wall via the overhead projector making for a cool twist on the beer list.

1 to Try – Kings Row Gastropub

I have not been to many of the new L.A. area craft beer locales that I have been meaning to check out. I am speaking of Kings Row Pub in Pasadena as well as Certified Market which was mentioned earlier this month….

If anyone out on the interwebs can give me a review of either place, I would heartily appreciate it! Kings Row seems to be doing a heckuva lot of events with good people like Firestone-Walker and Eagle Rock Brewery.

Rare Beer at GABF

What are you doing tomorrow? If you are planning on going to GABF this year, then you should probably buy these tickets too..
Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV (Tickets Go On Sale June 17, that’s tomorrow!) and the event is set for October 12th.

“The Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV, an awareness event and fundraiser for the Pints for Prostates campaign, will be held on Oct. 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the Wynkoop Brewery in Denver.

Tickets for the event go on sale on Father’s Day, June 17, at Noon (ET) and are $100 each. They include the chance to sample rare, exotic and vintage beers from 32 of America’s top craft breweries and meet the men and women who made them. Each attendee receives a commemorative tasting glass, t-shirt, program and pen. Guests also receive a three issue trial subscription to the award-winning All About Beer Magazine. A buffet lunch is included in the ticket price and guests will have the chance to bid in an exciting silent auction that includes a variety of unique beer experiences and collectibles.

Presented by All About Beer Magazine, tickets for the event are among the most sought after of any beer tasting. The event is held while the Great American Beer Festival is taking place in Denver. The first three Denver Rare Beer Tastings each sold out several weeks in advance.

“The Denver Rare Beer Tasting brings together America’s best craft breweries in a relaxed format where brewers and beer lovers get the chance to talk and taste a unique collection of beers,” said Daniel Bradford, publisher of All About Beer Magazine. “This is the quintessential rare beer tasting and gives people in Denver for the GABF the chance to experience a true boutique-style tasting.”

Lets Pour

There are only a small handful of places that ship beer and so anytime I find one, I try to get the word out and Let’s Pour has the added benefit of having free shipping!

Now the selection isn’t huge but for an Oregonian in L.A.. Availability of some HUB beers and Elysian as well as a Left Hand Smoke Jumper from Colorado is grand. And they have special beers too. Collage # 1 between Deschutes and Hair of the Dog sold out pretty quick but Fruet from the Bruery held in for a few days.

My current pick would be Freya’s Gold from Odin Brewing.

Sean Suggests for June 2012

The beers to buy for June all came off a recent e-mail list of what is available at one of my local beer buying stops Red Carpet, here in sunny Glendale, CA.

So click the links (may take two clicks depending upon the browser) and either head to Red Carpet if you are in L.A. or go to your store of choice and support craft beer from two gypsy brewers and a beer that has traipsed all over the globe.

Sean suggests for June 2012

On tap at Red Carpet

It has arrived!!

Red Carpet in my adopted hometown of Glendale is making the jump from bottle shop (with wine and spirits) to adding some tap lines too! “We are unveiling our new draft system. We only have 6 beers on tap. Still working on getting more. We will be officially pouring starting at 2PM Friday June 15, 2012.”

Draft Beers:
Stone IPA
Eagle Rock Brewery Populist
Epic Brewing Brainless
Sierra Nevada Summerfest
Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

St. Feuillien Grand Cru

ST-Feuillien has come out with a Grand Cru!

“Grand Cru is a Specialty Beer Carefully crafted by Belgium’s Brewery St Feuillien. This extra-blond amber nectar masterpiece undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, resulting in a beer endowed with an unforgettable character. The secret lies in the unique combination of the MOST noble hops and the finest aromatic ingredients. Grand Cru differs from other beers in the range by a lack of spices. Its full, white head is light and frothy, and when poured it creates a subtle lace effect.”
