Radiant Numerology

What do you get when you add 702 + 303 + 630 + 586 ?

You get Radiant Beer Co.s By The Numbers DDH West Coast IPA.  It is collaboration with Yakima Chief Hops with “advanced hop products from YCH like Citra 702 flowable extract and 303 Trial (a blend with Phantasm®), while also featuring HBC 630 Cryo and HBC 586 T90 pellets.

With “hop character with fresh pineapple, ripe strawberry, guava and orange zest flavor.”

Hop Data Points

Yakima Chief Hops is launching a new program named FWD, to drill down on both on data and the brewing community.

Here are a couple of snippets from the press release, “Participating brewers will be granted access to the newest, not-yet-commercialized HBC varieties and products in Yakima Chief Hop’s innovation pipeline. Application registration is open for breweries interested in trialing cutting-edge hop products and promising experimental hop varieties. In its inaugural year, FWD will be welcoming a limited number of enthusiastic participants. Through brewing trials, questionnaires, conversation and sensory analysis, brewers will have the opportunity to guide these products through their final stage of development, assuring YCH is working on the most useful and exciting products in the industry.”

“The ultimate goal of FWD is to have a circular, growing community of brewers working with Yakima Chief Hops to identify and curate the products that keep beer moving forward.”

Pink Boots Blend 2024

It is crazy to think that this upcoming year will only be the 7th anniversary of the now annual Pink Boots Blend of hops.  The partnership with Yakima Chief Hops creates a new “blend each year with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Pink Boots Society, the non-profit organization whose mission is to assist, inspire, and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education. YCH will donate $3 from each pound sold of the Pink Boots Blend directly to PBS, helping them to further their mission.”

This year, “the hop varieties in the 7th Annual Pink Boots Blend were collaboratively selected by PBS members through a combination of mailed kits and in-person voting during the Great American Beer Festival. This year’s distinctive combination features a harmonious melody of HBC 638, El Dorado®, Ahtanum®, and Idaho 7®.”

Next year, you will start seeing Pink Boots beers and I highly suggest tasting as many as you can.

Fresh ‘n’ Frozen

I won’t try to explain the science behind it but Sierra Nevada has a new version of Torpedo in (and only in) their hoppy sampler box called Cryo Fresh™.

Per the press release it “freezes hop harvest in time. Hops are most intense right when they’re picked, but they fade fast. Now the freshest, most powerful hop flavor is always within reach. The innovators at Yakima Chief Hops isolated pure lupulin from just-picked wet hops, the source of hop aroma and flavor. Stored at subzero temperatures, these hops provide hop field freshness, anytime.”

Seems a combo of innovation and marketing but would be a good taste test with regular Torpedo.

Pink in 2022

Hop supplier Yakima Chief Hops , have the details on their custom 5th annual Pink Boots Blend of hops. The blend changes each year, and sales help to fund the Pink Boots Society whose mission is to assist, inspire, and encourage women in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry. International Women’s Day will be on March 8th, 2022. Expect some great beers later that month.

Here is the mix…

Beer Podcast – Bigger Than Beer

Yakima Chiefs has embraced media in the last few years and this year the theme is Women+ in the Industry.

“Yakima Chief Hops will highlight and explore a new topic each year that focuses on the larger picture of the craft beer community’s impact. This includes social, environmental and sustainability initiatives with the ultimate goal of discovering solutions for change. This year’s Bigger Than Beer series: Women+ in the Industry will shine a light on some amazing women and share their different perspectives in the hopes of inspiring meaningful conversations and positive change on this important issue.”

I have downloaded a couple of episodes and will be listening.

Hidden from Sight

Veteran’s Day is coming up quick and Los Angeles Ale Works has created a new West Coast IPA, Camouflage that uses the 2018 Veterans Blend of hops (Cashmere, Centennial, Ekuanot, Mosiac and Simcoe) from Yakima Chief to add even more give back.

The hop blend is chosen by a group of veteran-owned breweries with a portion of the sales going to the Semper Fi Fund.

And LA Ale Works did not stop with just the hops. The label was designed by a veteran-owned company and the food on can release day is from a veteran-owned outfit as well.

And to top it off a portion of proceeds of the can sales on Sunday the 11th will go to the JT Foundation 10 “which supports homeless veterans, children and families battling life-altering illnesses right here in Los Angeles.”
