Sean Suggests for February 2015

header_beer_shopping_listFor February, a slight change of pace.  Let’s go low ABV and let’s go hyper L.A. local with three very tasty beers that won’t knock you off your stool.

~LIGHT

Noble Ale Works/ Dirt McGirt  4.70% ABV

“Our dirty blonde is a slight variation on the traditional blonde ale. We set the base with Bohemian Pilsher malt and then added in Vienna and Munich malts for a change to bring a soft breadiness to the beer, while still keeping the overall perception light and super drinkable.”

~ANOTHER LIGHT

MacLeod Ales/ Barclay Perkins 1941 3.9% ABV

“A proper historical recipe for a bit of a challenge.  Interesting recipe as it has lactose, inverted sugar, and oats which I believe is rather unusual”

~ALSO LIGHT

Eagle Rock Brewing/ Li’l Fred 3.90% ABV

Have you met the newest member to our little family? Meet Lil Fred! He’s a red mild with super tasty toast and nutty notes.

Review – The Messenger IPA

Wow. I remember liking this Three Weavers / Noble Ale Works collaboration back before 3W was not yet up and running in Inglewood but this bottle is tremendous. Just bright with citrus. I am getting tangerine and grapefruit in large delicious amounts. Not much bitterness here but that is because it is accenting the fruit not fighting it.

It also pours a beautiful and clear yellow from a really cool looking and big bottle. Really simple but artfully arranged colors and graphics on the label. The beer really looks good next to the bottle.

Back to the beer, it is super juicy and if you like that, well then this beer will really tickle your tastebuds. And if you have an IPA averse someone in your life, this might be the beer for them. I gave a taste to my resident witbier fan and got a really positive response.

Review – Nelson Showers from Noble Ale Works

Unfortunately I missed the Citra version of Noble’s DIPA 2014 series.  Part of the peril of not chasing after every beer.  I just wasn’t in the right place at the right time.  But I grabbed a bottle of the second in the series at Sunset Beer Co..  It pours a light orange to the point of yellow.  There is a big aroma here.  Spice hits the nose first.  Cooking spice.  The taste has that same bold spice note that is subdued by a touch of fruit.  Mostly grape but that fades right back to spice.  Strong and delicious.

Happy 3rd Anniversary by the way!
