Here is the first video review of the new year! But! It is not the first beer in the 50 States – 50 Beers in 2010 goal that I have set for myself. This was one of the many fabulous beers I enjoyed over the holidays.
Ommegang and Cooperstown are on my NY beer list and now add Ithaca as well. They have a couple of noteworthy additions in Brute and Eleven that sound great. Plus they have a nice regular line-up that includes a brown that makes me thirsty.
I was reading the NY Times when I ran across the restaurant review for….
DBGB Kitchen and Bar
★★
Food looks good, exotic and pricey but what caught my eye was the wine recommendation. Scroll down to see for yourself.
299 Bowery (Houston Street),
East Village; (212) 933-5300.
ATMOSPHERE An open, vaguely industrial space combines the elegance of polished concrete, large mirrors and soft leather booths with the simple beauty of stacked boxes of restaurant supplies.
SOUND LEVEL Given all the stone and wire and glass, lower than you’d think.
RECOMMENDED DISHES Appetizers: blood sausage; crispy tripe; veal tongues; iceberg salad; matzo-ball soup; more sausages. Main courses: Arctic char; lamb duo; more sausages.
WINE LIST Totally acceptable selection, but much better to experiment among the 23 beers on tap and large selection of bottled beers that have traveled here from Britain, from Brooklyn, from Germany, from France.

You knew this was coming. Schmaltz Brewing has made 12 Chosen beers. Next up is 13 so it will be Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah. Made with 13 malts, 13 hops and an abv of….13. It should be hitting stores this month.
I, personally, skipped the fig beer they made but this one I will try.
The awesome Beer America folks brought this brewery to my attention and now I pay it forward to you…
Southern Tier Brewing is not, I repeat, not in the south. Their home is in Lakewood, New York. They have quite the line-up of beers.. Year-round | Seasonal | Local | Imperial | Ltd Imperial | Seasonal Imperial | Blackwater | Cuvée Series. What intrigued me the most was the Creme Brulee Imperial Milk Stout.
Laboring under the shadow of the Brooklyn Brewery is the SixPoint Craft Ales.
They do a wide variety of styles. Belgian IPA to saison to Hop Obama (since retired).
Their beers are available mostly in New York but they are worth looking for when you need to try something new.
…is awarded to bars and restaurants in New York who:

4. Active community presence, as well as being independently operated establishment.
5. Good beer should be a strong feature if not the FOCUS of the operation.
