Count me as a fan of both the label art (they don’t take the easy IP way out) and the beer inside the cans that Ambitious Ales puts out. With that preamble, they have a new IPA, Batman Rapids.
“As we rotate through different hop varietals and bases in our IPA program, we land on something truly unique. A mix of old school and new school with a very modern feel. Batman Rapids beautifully showcases one of our favorite growers Free Style Hops. The Bruce and their own NZ grown Cascade. Big notes of fresh citrus peel and tropical fruits stand out while finishing with some nice floral and subtle spruce notes to bring in those classic west coast vibes. Perfectly crisp and beautiful, this is a fun one to get excited about! “
Glowing
Burbank’s Trustworthy Brewing debuted a new year-round IPA at their latest anniversary party, AlpenGlow…
Not Corduroy
Dressing from the waist up has been a thing for a couple years now but we will be going back to a time where we dress up and Eagle Rock Brewery has the beer for it…
No matter your idea of fancy, a rye pale ale will pair with it.
The Alt-everse
In a different corner of the multiverse, alt-biers might be the style to brew. It is a bit of an odd duck fermentation wise which is part of the reason it is not often seen.
But Los Angeles Ale Works is here with their Alternate Universe Alt-Bier.
Here is the brewery description- “Originating from Düsseldorf, an Altbier is a traditional German beer fermented at lower temps with a cold aging longer than an ale but shorter than a lager. We went 100% German malt, adding a twist with an American Style dry hop of Simcoe and Cascade. The balance between hops and malt on this is incredible. Copper in color, fruity, light bodied with a crisp and bitter finish.”
Opia
Hair of the Dog has a new stout to release to the world, Opia.
Chocolate, cherries AND bourbon. Sounds like a decadent treat from the Portland brewery.
Punch it Up
Earlier this year Powell’s Bookstore teamed with Ex Novo Brewing on a bookshop beer and now it is happening in California between Topa Topa Brewing and Timbre Books.
If we can get even more of these beers maybe GABF would create a book beer category.
Ivy Station Next Stop
I have mentioned that L.A. Ale Works has a second location coming and though that space at Ivy Station in Culver City is not open, yet. There is a beer, and a juicy IPA at that, that might just be the house beer. Meet Me At Ivy Station.
Ground in Santa Monica
I like a local roaster combining with a local brewer but I don’t normally drink before 6pm most days so, I guess I would have to have breakfast for dinner in the case of this new “breakfast brew” from Santa Monica Brew Works.
Footie
Bundesliga is all but done, the Premier League is winding down with some important spots still in play, and MLS is back and you will need to drink something when watching from your couch. And Ambitious Ales has DDH Hazy for you. AND a cheeky Spanish football referenced beer….
Tiki Taka – Tiki Sour with Pineapple, Peach, Toasted Coconut and Vanilla
From the Deep
I really love the mythical creatures, like the Ponaturi, that Ogopogo Brewing puts on their labels. And I also really love that they have seemed to have found a niche in dry hopped lagers. Bonus points to beer fans who have had a beer with the hop known as “the Bruce”.
