I would say that of the fruits used in IPAs, that the apricot would not be at the top of the list. Which makes Tarantula Hill’s new Flavor Jackpot a bit of a rarity.
Anaheim and PDX
I am always excited to see Portland beer in Los Angeles, maybe it’s the Beat L.A. mentality from growing up there. Everywhere Beer has teamed with the upcoming PDX brewery, Commensal Fermentation to create Broken Bread another West Coast IPA to try.
Brisk
Karl Strauss calls their new collaboration with Harland Brewing Co. an “experimental Cold IPA”.
Brisky Business is described as “vibrant floral, citrus, and sweet fruit notes from this unique blend of Strata, Chinook, HBC 586, and 638 hops. The puffed jasmine rice lends to an extremely crisp mouthfeel and ultra-clean finish.”
I don’t know what ultra-clean is but leading with Strata hops has me intrigued.
Night Terrors
Got another spooky season release for you, “Nite Terrors, a sinister twist on our White Nite Golden Stout. This nocturnal version is an Imperial Golden Stout with heaps of cacao nibs and espresso coffee.”
Angel City will have you in the Halloween spirit after drinking since it is a tiny 10% ABV.
Hop Right
AleSmith is not letting their foot off the new release gas pedal as they have a new DIPA out now, look for the pink labeled can and the name Hopwright.
Hazyville
I am not a dress up in a costume and go to a Halloween party guy but a Halloween Hazy release with a fun, classic horror label? I am here for it. Claremont Craft Ales is the place in two days time…..
Rice Day – Brewyard Beer Co.
Glendale’s Brewyard Beer Co. has a new rice lager, La Prieta that has an addition of tamarind to add an extra flavor profile to the lager. Sounds like it could be an excellent food beer.
Rice Day – Maui Brewing
Us weirdo beer fans have probably had an IPA with the creaminess of lactose. We have probably had an IPA one with the island flavor of mangoes and / or coconut. But what about a mango-coconut milkshake IPA with jasmine rice? Well, Maui Brewing has mashed all four together in a new beer.
Cuckoo for Coconut
I would not have thought to brew with a whole different water but San Diego’s NOVA Easy Kombucha has pivoted to their first beer, “Beach Lager.” This small-batch pilot beer is brewed using coconut water.
I would be interested to see what this ingredient swap would do for a stout or smoothie style beer.
Not Obscure
AleSmith, amongst other breweries, have a Mexican lager but there are fewer dark Mexican lagers. AleSmith is rectifying that imbalance with Clásico Oscura.
