’88 like me

88
The collaboration craze shows no sign of abating and I, for one, am not surprised. If brewers can be creative with malt and hops then why would that end when more industry friends are invited in.

Now Deschutes will collaborate with breweries from the Class of ’88. North CoastRogueGoose IslandGreat Lakes Brewing who have all reached the 25 year mark. This will be a series of beers honoring that joyous mark.

According to schedule the first to appear will be a barleywine in March of this year.
Then a couple months later a Smoked Imperial Porter will be released and finally a Belgian Style Strong Golden will arrive late in the year.

The BeerKing Henry

The Details
“Aged in bourbon barrels, King Henry is a burgundy hued English-style barleywine with aromas of vanilla, oak, and dark fruit. Caramel and toffee flavors blend together with bold notes of bourbon delivered in a smooth body followed by a malty finish. No matter the occasion, King Henry promises a regal drinking experience.”

XMAS BEER – Mild Winter Ale

Goose Island trys a different tack with their 2010 holiday release of a mild.

Here is their description…”Toffee brown, medium-bodied, with a creamy head and an aroma of raisins and freshly baked dark bread. Mild Winter’s rich caramel malt and spicy rye flavors are sure to take the bite out of whatever Old Man Winter brews up for you this year.”

Pepe Nero

The dark malted sensation is moving from IPA’s and lagers to saison? As part of the Goose Island Belgian inspired series, then yes. Bottles will start arriving sometime next year.

Can you wait that long?

Goose Island Fleur

Don’t this sound interesting. I have never seen a beer with kombucha before this Goose Island creation. Personally, I can’t drink it but some swear by it. This could be sour by a different road though so I am cautiously optimistic.

Demolition…

…is a new year-round offering from Goose Island in Chicago. Initially brewed for stalwart regulars who kept the brewery afloat while construction was going on all around their building, it is now coming out in bottles. Here is their description…
“It’s brewed with Saaz and Styrian Golding hops for a grassy, citrus aroma and lots of the finest pale malt for a ‘honey’ malt middle and intense flavor.”

Goose Island

Belgian is obviously the style of 2009. From The Bruery in Orange County to Ommegang in New York, it is where the cutting edge of brewing is happening.

Now I hear through the grapevine about two new offerings from Chicago’s Goose Island. Juliet which is a Belgian Sour and Sofie which is a farmhouse ale. They are now on my ever expanding list of beers I really need to taste.

If you have sampled them and have an opinion you would like to vent then comment below. I would enjoy seeing what people think.
