Switched Gears

El Segundo Brewing is know for their IPA (they even dip their toes in Hazy on occasion) but I want to highlight a barrel-aged collab with Burnin’ Daylight Brewing Company.

Together they whipped up an Imperial Stout then stowed it away in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels for 9 months. According to the brewery press release it has “notes of cookie dough, brownie mix, cherries, baking chocolate, apricot, bourbon and toasted oak.”

Switchgear Stout” will be available in 375ml bottles on April 4th

Slice & Pint with ESBC

I was lucky enough to make an early pizza visit to the new El Segundo Brewing, Slice & Pint.

Here are some glamour shots of beer and pizza…

The pizza was really good. The ingredient balance was just right and you could tell that thought had been put into each one. I mean, they tasted a lot of pepperoni to find one that had the right flavor and size and would look good too. The space is really nice. Lengthy, with well defined areas including a spot that could be used for private parties with its own taps.

The next time ESBC has a beer release that I am in the area for, I will probably stop here either before or after.

El Crowl-gundo

El Segundo beer needs to be drunk fresh. There is a reason why they have a whole Day 1 program of getting their bottles to market the same day that they are filled. That is why they date code. Now, they have added crowlers to the mix to add another option for the West Coast IPA fan.

Colorful Collaborative Cans

Not a huge fan of returning to the ’80s but I do like the idea of having a West-Coast forward, 22oz bomber forward brewery teaming with a haze forward, crowler brewery to learn new tricks. All in a VERY colorful way.

State Brewing and El Segundo Brewing are going all Vice and Versa on October 13th, here are the beer details:
“It’s two breweries, one hop profile and two different styles of IPA. State showed us the way of the Hazy, we showed State the way of the West Coast and we’re each doing simultaneous can releases.”

Check their websites and social media for music, shuttle and food details.

Brut AF

The Full Pint beer blog has made it pretty easy to help them celebrate their 11th anniversary. They released a beer with Pizza Port, they have another with Faction Brewing coming up and for Angelenos, they have…. BRUT AF.

Here are the details for the El Segundo stop: “And we’re canning this sucker and throwing a party in its honor…Saturday, August 11th, 12PM-10PM, MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The Full Pint crew will be here hanging out and Vella Pizza will be cooking your favorite pie.”

Get Suerte

El Segundo is getting lucky for their latest anniversary IPA.

Sietes de las Suertes will be released on Saturday May 12th, starting at noon. This Double IPA “has got all the sexy hops we love- Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo and Nelson.”

And if that beer isn’t enough, you can get the variant – “Siete’s Grapefruit and Orange Bombed brother “Cítricos de las Suertes” and a cask of Hyperion’s Sheet Cake Stout- A delightful mix of Vanilla Beans, Coconut Milk and a packet of Swiss Miss Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa powder.”

ESBC Pints & Pizza

El Segundo Brewing is opening a second location but it won’t be too far and the focus will be on pizza (with IPA of course). The new spot in El Segundo will be called The Slice and Pint.

Pizza specialist Noel Brohner will handle the slice side of the brewpub business and though no beer will be brewed on site, it will still be really, really local and most certainly hoppy.

If you have set your timer, The Slice and Pint is expected something mid-to-late summer at 130 West Grand Avenue.

Melting

El Segundo is melting down. The upcoming release of their very, very burly TIPA Power Plant will kick off on Day 0 at the brewery. Then the rest of us from Ventura to San Diego will be part of the blast radius the next day for their traditional Day 1 release.

Here is the latest info on what will be pouring…
Power Plant Triple IPA
Nuclear Power Plant Triple IPA
Cerveza Fresca – Guava – NE IPA
Electric Jungle Juice – Hybrid IPA
Spark Plug – small hoppy beer from Power Plant second runnings
…and certainly a few casks and variants we are currently still dreaming up!
