Sean Suggests for January 2023

Let’s take a little drive around SoCal to taste all sorts of hops from Noble to un-named and Pilsner to IIPA to start the year off right.

Bottle LogicSemplicitá Italian Pilsner – 5.2% “Saphir and Saaz hops tout delicate aromas of pine and white flowers and transition to the palate with an up-front bitterness. It lingers for a moment and folds into the fresh bready sweetness of the malt base with a medium-light body and effervescent carbonation.”

El Segundo BrewingSimcoe West Coast IPA – 6.8% – “Once again, we love a hop so much, we had no choice but to name a beer after it. Simcoe’s been around since 2000, making it a classic hop of the West Coast IPA. There’s been plenty of hops that have made a splash since then, but Simcoe has a certain… je ne sais quoi that keeps us coming back for more.”

Ogopogo Brewing / Harland Beer Co.Merlion 2 DDH Hazy IIPA – 8.5% – “With Citra, Incognito Citra, HBC 586 and HBC 586 Cryo.”

Sportsball

El Segundo Brewing has their bases and hash marks covered with two new IPAs that are out in the market from a really super busy brewery in the last two months.

For football fans, you have Game Day Ritual with a simple but super effective label design, which you can pair with Iron Horse and the old-time Yankee fans in your life.

El Dunkel

Yes, El Segundo is first and foremost an IPA or even better thought at DIPA or TIPA house but underneath are some exceptions to the rule and this Oktoberfest, ESBC has paired with noted home brewer John Palmer for a Dunkel Bock.  This will be great to taste alongside their returning festbier.

OG

Here is another collaboration beer alert – OG IPA from Kern River Brewing teamed with L.A’s El Segundo Brewing .

The details – “The goal was to wind back the clock to before things got Hazy and celebrate the California IPA before it became known as “West Coast”. Maybe we are just old-fashioned, but we still feel out about the beers people were making decades ago and raise a glass to those O.G. HOP INNOVATORS. with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo hops; piney and dank with lemony citrus notes.”

May the 14th Be With You

Mark your calendars and ready your lupulin threshold as El Segundo Brewing will be celebrating #11 this year.

They will be bringing back two hoppy offerings from their past, Greetings From El Segundo TIPA and Lost in the Mall. I would guess that more fun beers will be added to the board as the event draws near.

Next Gen

Every year is a new generation and at the Propagator in Venice, Firestone Walker that means more IPA.

Here are the details – “Each April, we celebrate another year of good times and brewing at The Propagator R&D Brewhouse with an anniversary beer release. This year, we teamed up with our friends at El Segundo Brewing Co. to create Gen-6 Double IPA, a riff on our now-classic Propagator house IPA, Gen-1.”
