Out of the Woodwork

photos from Eagle Rock Brewery

Eagle Rock has bottled not one but two new beers, Rubus Magnifera & Cerasus Magnifera for their ongoing Woodwork Project.

Here are the new bottles in town:
Cerasus Magnifera – Sour Pale aged with tart cherries & mangoes
Rubus Magnifera – Sour Pale aged with raspberries & mangoes

The ERB “Woodwork Project is dedicated to the venerable art of maturing beer in wooden vessels. Deeply complex and often tart, these beers are a study in balancing the inexorable effects of time, oak, and mother nature.”

The cherry/mango combo would be my first choice.

To the Top

# 3 in the Day Trip series of cans from Eagle Rock Brewery will be dropping on July 18th. And it has the perfect name for those hikers who have backpacks filled with beer, :Summit Seeker American IPA is an homage to Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the lower 48 states, and is chock full of pine, citrus and tropical notes from Galaxy, Simcoe and Summit hops.”

The fourth and final Day Trip release for 2017 will go by the name of Salvation Mountain and will be a 180 from IPA land, a prickly pear gose slotted for late August.

“All four in the series are named for an outdoor site only a short journey outside the city, and a portion of the proceeds from every can of 2 North and Salvation Mountain will benefit the national monuments they represent.”

Follow #ERBDayTrip for more about the series.

Recap – Eagle Rock Session Fest 2017

A few days have passed since one of my favorite L.A. craft beer events, the Session Fest at Eagle Rock Brewery, so time for some photos and some notes on what I tasted which is a lot harder than it seems because you can’t just start with the lowest ABV and work your way up. Plus there were so many different beers that you couldn’t just focus on hoppy or fruity.

Leeroy Light – an ode to to light beer that poured a bright yellow. Silky and smooth.
Sparkle Brew – Yup, this would be the red beer. One of the ingredients being magic. Had some berry notes to it also some butter on the back end.

Silly Rabbit – I did not get a Trix aroma off this and not much citrus either but if I saw it again, I would order it. A simple nice low hopped beer.
The Future is Unclear – This was like their recent Juice Pop IPA, just lighter. Category creator? Session NE?

Half Wit – Big on grapefruit. Pretty pink muddy color to what was called a breakfast beer. Will more Radlers hit this summer for Angeleno’s?
Anything You Can Do – This is better on nitro but tasting on cask shows how really good this beer is. I hope this gets canned
Monteverde Lemonade – The most unique beer of the Fest. Sprig of mint included is a cool touch. Like a light Limoncello.

I missed Umlaut with lager yeast. The Lupulin Denial Gruit and the Beechwood smoked beer. I was glad to to see that cask ale was offered and was quite happy to see so many beers under 4%. Such a great fest. Make plans to attend next year.

Session Fest 2017 @ Eagle Rock

One of my favorite festivals enters its seventh year, Session Fest presented by Eagle Rock Brewery has ZERO beer over 5.0% ABV but all have 100% creativity. This year it will be held on Saturday, April 29 from noon to 6pm.

The beers are “brewed by ERB and Eagle Rock Public House employees. Paired up with brewers on the team, the whole staff gets a chance to fully experience the process of making the beers they sell in the taproom.”

Tickets include commemorative half pint glassware + 5 beer pours. $25 early bird, $30 at the door. Must be 21+ to attend.

Double the Taps

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day (or as I call it, stay at home night) Eagle Rock Brewery will have an additional 8 taps to their existing 8. For the non-math majors, that is 16 taps plus two beer engines for the occasional cask.

Even greater, is that because ERB has so many low ABV beers, you can try tasters of more beers! Plus it will make events like their upcoming Session Fest, all the better. Even greater-ish, it might mean that Solidarity makes its way on tap more often.
