Time to choose a side. Wizards and Hazies or Humans and West Coasties?
This challenge comes to us from Smog City and Three Weavers and their two IPA’s…
We start with…
More Wizard Than Human Hazy IPA – fruit plus Sweet Tart on the aroma. Soft on the palate. The bitterness is there but more lurking than upfront. The spell of hops is from Strata, Cashmere and El Dorado. I get some tea like notes from the Strata plus a little twisted malt note.
More Human Than Wizard West Coast IPA – according to the label art, much bigger hops used. Though really it is the same big three just expressed differently. Tilted more British in styling with a bready note. More earthy and woody and no fruit.
Verdict – I like the fruity notes in the hazy over the earthy in the West Coast. I also like the wizard over the Thor like dude with the big H mash paddle.
Looks like Firestone Walker is back into the pilsner game with this collaboration with St. Petersburg, Florida’s Green Bench Brewing.
Dabbling in Decoction from Firestone Walker’s The Propagator beer will be an American pilsner that hits 4.7%
Personally, I think there are too many Sean’s in the wild but there are probably way more Brian’s. Ponder that with…
…the new Italian Pilsner concocted by Lucky Luke Brewing with HopSaint Brewing.
Is that Aquaman’s dad in overalls?
Whomever you think it is, a hazy from the combined forces of Smog City and Three Weavers should cast a spell on your taste buds.
Every year is a new generation and at the Propagator in Venice, Firestone Walker that means more IPA.
Here are the details – “Each April, we celebrate another year of good times and brewing at The Propagator R&D Brewhouse with an anniversary beer release. This year, we teamed up with our friends at El Segundo Brewing Co. to create Gen-6 Double IPA, a riff on our now-classic Propagator house IPA, Gen-1.”
“April 23rd, 2022 is the 506th Anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot and just so happens to be the same day as Frühlingsfest where we will be releasing this year’s American Reinheitsgebot American Dark Lager”
Enegren has joined with much lauded Moonlight Brewing of Santa Rosa for this new Czech Style dark lager that uses Zuper Saazer hops from HopHead Farms and the grain is from Admiral Maltings.
Beachwood Blendery has some new blends made in collaboration with Portland’s Von Ebert Brewing that recently released.
Constancy of Change – Belgian-style sour ale fermented and aged in oak barrels with Pixie Mandarin and five spice.
Infinite Resonance – Belgian-style sour ale fermented and aged in oak barrels with Ruby Red Grapefruit & Salt.
I don’t normally post about popular or whale beers but I do post quite frequently about collaborations so, here we go…
Bottle Logic and Green Cheek have joined Orange County forces for a sour meets rum experience.
“We aged Birds of Paradise in Barbadian rum barrels before steeping the liquid on a vibrant blend of dried orange and grapefruit peels to mimic the citrus-driven bitterness of the cocktail’s Aperol component. A tempering tropical sweetness of fresh pineapple alights on the palate with a peck of fresh lime juice, all culminating in an integrated-but-obvious 14% exhale.”
