No – Will Cellaring Ever Return?

It is probably safe to say that the drink it fresh crowd have won the day.  All those Enjoy By IPAs have cracked the collective consciousness.  I do not see either a resale market or beers by the bottle at bars and those would be the two big drivers for cellaring to regain a foothold.

The members only breweries with small footprints have also taken the mind share market for the types of beers that would be cellared but are too tiny to really get mainstream so the cellaring trend will be ISO more people for now.

Smog City – Part 1 – Cherry Nerd

Cool TV show callback from Smog City Brewing with Krieks & Geeks.

Here is the description of this Cellar Series beer, “This oak-aged saison is all about fruit! Deliciously crisp, dry, and tart is the name of the game in this 5.6% beauty. Our little nod to fruity lambic beers from Belgium, we incorporated heaps of Balaton and Montmorency cherries to sweeten up and balance out the saison funk.”

Going Vintage

AleSmith Brewing is coming out with a new, designed to be cellared beers under the Vintage Series banner and the first beer out of the gate is….
AleSmith-Private-Stock-Vintage-Ale-2016
…. “the release of AleSmith Private Stock Ale, an imperial English-style brew that is suitable for aging for up to 20 years.”

More from the press release:

Does it mean you have to buy 20 bottles of each and try each year?

Dedicated craft beer fans have bottles stashed away either in a cellar or in the dark recesses of our ‘fridge but they do need to be drunk (at some point). Which is why whenever their is a proposal to head to the secret supply for a bottle, I like to promote it.

This time it is Allagash Brewing who are asking us to “drink some beers together that we’ve had stashed. The moment has come! ‪#‎drinkitnow ‪#‎getsocial 2.21.16”

No need to get all hashtaggy if you don’t want to but at least take a look around your beer inventory.
