…and save the date on your calendar for next month’s Beachwood Anniversary.
Beachwood’s 3rd Location
Two days ago, I made the trip down south to Huntington Beach to see the production facility for Beachwood Brewing.
The facility on the musically named Woodwind Drive was formerly Beach City Brewing. You enter the building to a few plants and the Beachwood logo on the wall. The outside and the initial look could almost lead you to believe it was a dental office but then you make a left turn and in one room is a bottling line and as you turn to the right you see the tanks looming up.
Five core beers will be the primary focus here. Amalgamator, Foam Top, Alpha Galatic, Citraholic and Mocha Machine. Which means that you will start seeing a more ready and steady supply of those than you had before. There are plenty of others to choose from. Blendery beers will appear sporadically and other Beachwood brews will circle in and out.
The first location grew as a restaurant, the second was the brewery with a restaurant and this new space is restaurant free, though food trucks will make appearances. If you those five beers on the top of the board are your jam, then this is the place for you. It will be freshest place to get them and the vibe is pure Beachwood plus a little more relaxation since the bustle of food is not there.
Growler Recycle
I didn’t intend to have as many growlers as I do but even without buying one, I have a medium/small collection. If you have an even bigger one, then you may want to head to Beachwood because they have a Growler Exchange Program.
Here are the details: Beachwood Brewing “will exchange any growler from a corporately owned “craft” brewery for a free unfilled Beachwood growler and a $5 dollar gift card – redeemable at Beachwood BBQ and Brewing Long Beach.
Give us your Golden Roads, your Ballast Points, your collective brown jugs looking for a recycling bin.”
*Limit 20 growlers per person through the month of September*”

Hazy Weather in LBC
Monkish Brewing is selling hoppy cans by the bushel load and on the 14th you can compare them to New York beer darlings, Other Half and see who has this hazy IPA thing done the coldest. Then compare those to the Shrago Beachwood IPA’s that are straight up West Coast.
Melrose IPA – NOW in bottles!
Beachwood has been pumping out the bottles this year and one of their stalwart IPA’s is making its debut on July 16. Hey, that’s today!
Here is the info on the beer: “Melrose is brewed with American 2-row malt and a touch of Canadian honey malt to accentuate the tropical and citrus hop. It’s generously dry hopped with Simcoe and Amarilllo for an over-the-top aromatic experience. As Brewmaster and co-owner Julian Shrago explains, “Melrose is a true West Coast India Pale Ale that I’ve been brewing for many years.” A throwback from his days as a homebrewer, Melrose IPA is already a favorite among Beachwood Brewing fans. “After many humbling requests, it’s finally here!” “Melrose is a great beer and we are excited to finally see it bottled for the first time,” echoes co-owner Gabriel Gordon. “There’s no doubt that those who tried Thrillseeker IPA will be pleased to have another great go-to Beachwood IPA.” Melrose IPA will be sold in 22 oz. bottles at finer craft beer retailers across Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. The IPA will also be available on draft at both Beachwood BBQ locations.”
Their IPA’s are fantastic and they sell fast so get a bottle quick and drink it fresh.
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing turns 1
The craft beer events just don’t stop here in SoCal and here is another for your July list.
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing Tribute to Southern California Breweries 1st Anniversary Party on Saturday July 7th 2012 – 11:30am to Close
Here is the scoop from Beachwood:
“Beer is a regional specialty, a craft that reflects our tastes, philosophies, traditions and aspirations. It’s a temporal experience that takes weeks, months or even years of attention leading up to the moment that it’s savored, gulped down, revered or just plain forgotten. We are all lucky enough to live in a region full of craft
beers that will not be forgotten. In fact they will continue to be duly noted on cell phones, laptops, paper scraps or just by a series of baffled expressions that signify beer geek transcendence. Southern California is a special place for beer and we at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing are privileged to be a part of an innovative, eclectic,
uncompromising and truly exceptional community of breweries. As a tribute to all of their inspiration over the years, we’ve decided to celebrate our anniversary with a festival of Southern California breweries.”
