40 Years of Falcons

box_falcon_logo

For the 40th Anniversary of the Maltose Falcons Home Brew Club they will be conducting a Baltic Porter Tasteoff!  Love that a semi-obscure style like that is getting love. According to their website, “We’ll be tasting everyone’s Baltic Porter creations to determine a recipe to take to Eagle Rock for brewing! If you have a Baltic Porter, bring it!”

I for one, am looking forward to tasting this at Eagle Rock later this year!

Summit # 10 with the LA Beer Bloggers

2014 is off with a bang for the L.A. Beer Bloggers.  Last month we got a sneak peek at where Ohana Brewing will be setting up a taproom while also going a little behind the scenes of 38 Degrees and the Full Pint.

And this month, we tackle the topic of beer photography.  From the perspective of the great Bernie Wire, from a brewery owner standpoint and from a marketing rep view.  Should be interesting, plus it will be at Smog City which has a few good beers, to say the least.

If you write about beer, Instagram, Facebook or Tweet about it then come on down…..

2020 Release Party

Recently, Golden Road Brewing unveiled another IPA from their Custom IPA series.  And this, like Heal the Bay, has a watery challenge behind it.  This hoppy offering is brewed to bring attention to the L.A. River Greenway 2020 project.

To help you order the right beer and donate to the cause with your purchase, here are the tap handle and the can packaging:

Maybe one day we will have a thriving culture alongside the river that we were so scared of that we had to box it up in a concrete canyon.

LA on the Board

At this point this is now “old” news but considering the 4th anniversary of Ladyface concluded yesterday, I thought I should keep the focus on the Agoura Hills brewery for another day….

Cyrena Nouzille is on the board of the Brewer’s Association!

Cyrena and Ladyface has been a big part of the craft beer resurgence / catching up to other cities and it is great to see her representing the SoCal area.  It also shows that others recognize what is going on in the Southland.

Savoring Life

On Tuesday, January 14from 5-10pm Mohawk Bend will have a special menu based on an 11 year-old cookbook author!  And that is not the end of the story, that author, Tyler Cordova was battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

So “Executive Chef Erick Simmons will be taking some of Tyler’s recipes from his cookbook “Savoring Life,” and creating a three-course meal as we celebrate Tyler’s journey and the book that exposes his relentless heart and soul. Proceeds from book sales and a portion of proceeds from the dinner will raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Greater Los Angeles Chapter. For more about Tyler’s story head HERE!” according to the beery folks at Mohawk.

Time to celebrate 4th anniversaries….

First is the one day event for Eagle Rock Brewery

“...lots of special beers on tap, including ALL of our previous anniversary releases and some super special casks. It’s our 4-year anniversary release so be here for it’s debut!

The deets? Admission is $20 and includes 4 beers (additional drink tickets will be available for purchase), an amazing time with some special beers, and a commemorative anniversary glass for you to take home, and a raffle ticket to get some Eagle Rock Brewery or Keep A Breast shwag. **A portion of the proceeds from the day will be donated to the Los Angeles Brewers Guild and Keep A Breast Foundation.

We’ll also have some GREAT food trucks at the brewery that day!”
