In looking up some information on the Los Angeles County Guild website, I came across an unfamiliar logo. The one you see above. Never heard of this brewery so I assumed that Cervecia del Pueblo was far away, but lo and behold it is in Pasadena. Dig further I will and report back when more information is found.
Get Your Beer – in different ways
The closure of breweries and tap rooms (you know what the Governor calls “Non-essential”) means that getting beer needs new methods.
Here are some quick updates from local breweries:
King Harbor – will deliver growlers. If timing is right, same day. Only in the South Bay so call to find out if you are in range.
Smog City – has dock to-go sales at their front door and will also offer next day beer delivery from one of their beertenders. Again check the delivery maps.
MacLeod Ales – has the one-two of beer AND pizza. And you can get crowlers of cask ale too.
Eagle Rock and Brewyard are also doing to-go sales.
Indie Brewing and Highland Park are also testing out delivery options.
Just a partial list, but it should get you started.
Top O’ the Wire
Oregon already has an artisan malt house constructing a tasting room and not Crosby Hop Farm is going that route to this summer. They are working on the TopWire Hop Project, a beer garden on the grounds of the Crosby Hop Farm, “an independent, fifth-generation hop grower, merchant and processor nestled in Oregon’s heralded Willamette Valley.”
The beer garden is “constructed out of a large shipping container” and there will be rotating craft beers, tours of the farm and IPA’s to spare. If only they had a small hotel on site, then I would be set.
Bowl and Flight
I think that if I tried to bowl now, I might lose a thumb to the ball as it rolled down the lane but if you are into the strikes and spares then the Jewel City Bowl has a bowling league that also has local beer flights. Check out the info HERE and see if you want to get a team together. Of drinkers or bowlers.
The Terror
I like the interior feel of Bluebird Brasserie on Ventura Boulevard. The outdoor patio, the stone walls, just enough dark. And apparently, they are doing an early Halloween in conjunction with Dirk Rogers to create a spooky scene, filled with Belgian beers. The frights start April 1st (hoping I am not being taken in by a hoax, yet again) so you can visit before the middle of the month or in April.
Women in Beer Tour
On March 29th, L.A. Beer Hop will put the spotlight on Women’s History Month with a special tour featuring three breweries in the Downtown Los Angeles area. Here are the details….
Each stop will highlight a guest speaker, including:
– Brewmaster Devon Randall, who operates three breweries for the Pouring with Heart restaurant group at Imperial Western Beer Company in DTLA
– Brewer Kim Rice at Sage Organic Bistro and Brewery in Echo Park
– Amber Sawicki, production brewery at Boomtown Brewery in the Arts District
This beer tasting adventure departs from Union Station in Downtown. Tour lasts 4-5 hours and will be guided by Certified Cicerone® Cindy Mooney, co-owner of LA Beer Hop.
Tickets are $69 and includes a flight of beer at each destination.
Also, be on the look-out for other trips to the South Bay with a different set of brewers.
Brewport goes Full Sierra Nevada
Brewport Tap House in El Segundo has expanded their footprint on Main Street and they must have expanded taps because they have 40 Sierra Nevada beers a’coming on the 5th. If any of the beers in the image are ones you are looking to tick, then head out on Thursday.
1st Visit – Public Coast Brewing
The last time I was in Astoria, I had my first can of Public Coast beer and on my second trip to the Oregon Coast, I visited their Cannon Beach brewery to check out how it looks and to try another of their beers.
The outside style fits in with the beachy/touristy vibe that the little town has cultivated since I first started visiting with my parents and sister back when I was younger. Inside you have the novel approach of a casual restaurant where you go to the counter to get served and then take a number if you have food or take your beer if just having beer.
I had the Rosemary IPA and it was pretty good. They also had a cranberry kettle sour, a coffee cream ale as well as a Candy Cap Mushroom Stout.
The next time (there will be one), I will have to get a sampler tray and some food to get a full report.

Hangar 24 – The 3rd
Positive news from Hangar 24. The Redlands brewery that rode Orange Wheat to multiple locations and then faded from sight. They are now opening a tap room + restaurant at the Intersect Campus in Irvine.
Per a facebookd post the 3rd H24 location will sport the “an indoor bar and seating area, full restaurant for sit-down and to-go food orders, event and live music venue, a massive outdoor bar and lounge, pool table, volleyball court, lawn games…”
It will soft open on March the 2nd while being updated when a summer re-opening should occur.
