Hermosa Hollow

Hermosa Brewing has found a brewing home! It is a bit further up the coast and in the now crowded El Segundo scene. It is in the same brick building as the R6 Distillery which could yield some collaborations down the road.

New Beginnings

Shoots of beer growth are starting to happen again! First up is a name I have been talking about for some time, Paperback Brewing in Glendale which is right near The Glendale Tap. They teased on Instagram the date of 7/3.

Second, it appears that the Glendora location of Smog City is on track to be open sooner rather than later as well.

Make sure to look for any instructions either place will be needing you to follow and be super nice to these people who have been through a ringer already.

Summit Sipping

I enjoy a good walk but I am a city streets kind of guy and not one to venture into the out of doors and hike in nature. That being said, if I knew there were cocktails (or of course, beer), I could be tempted to find a dusty trail. That is what makes the Summit Sippers such a cool idea. They haul up cocktail ingredients and fancy dress to welcome hikers to the summit. Hauling a keg would obviously be a harder endeavor plus that first draft might get messy but maybe there could be a halfway beer stop too.

Review – Beer of the Month Club – Rare Beers

It is always good to get a box of beer in the mail and in these times of unopened taprooms, it is a safer way to get your beer to you and then if you want something that not everyone can get? Well then you really should take a look at the Rare Beer Club. The two beers that I received came with a full story on the brewery and the beer as well as an extra tidbit of info on beer in general. And for the beers, if the photo did not pique your interest, maybe the reviews below will.

17Pours a jet black color with dark brown bubbles around the rim. The mint is shy at first but as the beer warms really dials up. Chocolate lies underneath the mint as a subtle counterpoint. It really tastes like a mint chip ice cream even without any lactose.

Righteous Son I want to say sweetness at first but the better word pairing is rustic caramel.  There is a slight bourbon undertone but instead of being a featured performer it is more background. There is a pleasant mustiness here. English meets restrained America. Aroma has a leather quality to it.  A Sunday sipper.

In HiDef

It is hard to speculate about new breweries in the best of times but we all need to keep hope alive which is why you should follow HiDef Brewing which was and is in the process of opening. Maybe we all will be able to visit their Olive Avenue taproom this year.

Secret Stash

A small side benefit of unopened taprooms is that some breweries are starting to dig into their cellars and offering up some great aged beers. Sierra Nevada is selling Bigfoot packages that allow you to taste the beer from one year to the next (and they will shop it to you!).

Beachwood in Long Beach has added special bottles from their extremely well curated lists too.

Lastly, the reliable Beer of the Month Club has become a go-to again. Thanks to breweries being forced to package in anything other than kegs, the monthly club now has more options including their Rare Beer Club which has some gems from breweries like Lost Abbey.

Make sure to follow your favorites and keep your eyes peeled to social media.

IE

I try my level best to travel around the extended L.A. beer world but even in the best of times, it was hard to keep up. Thankfully Andrew Smith has decided to help us all keep up on beer goings in the Inland Empire with…

…so that when we are free to move about the cabin, we will know where to go when we leave the bubble of L.A. County. Click HERE to read up on the breweries.

Paperback Update

Apologies in advance. I have been teasing Paperback Brewing for quite some time now but this maybe the cruelest one. Now doesn’t the above look pretty? Now all we need is for this damn virus to vamoose so we can all safely enjoy their Glendale beer.

Virtual Saison

Pivoting to video and not in person can be easily made in some instances. But it can be also used with a little creative or just fun flair.

Us West Coasters will have to use our lunch break but this could be a fun way to learn about Saison’s and stay connected.
