4S3

Passing on some good news that leads to six months of where you can help. Tarantula Hill Brewing Co. in Thousand Oaks has announced the first round of donations from their 4S3 Golden Ale. The money raised “has been given to Borderline Strong, the entity Borderline owner Brian Haynes created to benefit students seeking scholarships to pursue their dreams! Borderline Strong plans to give 12 scholarships every year to those wanting to pursue trades and activities that were close to the hearts of those who perished in the Borderline tragedy.”

So, whatever is raised from the sale of this beer in the next six months will go to their next (2) recipients. Pick-U a 4-pack.

Darting Away

I have, personally, not found it super easy to order a crowler from the Tny Yanow group of L.A. breweries. Then again, I do not like passing my info everywhere online. But if I can get some beers in delivery, maybe I will. Those more savvy than me might already be ahead of me here.

Fable

Whether you call them Mom & Pop, locals, or small business, times are tough. That is why I am highlighting The Fable, right close to me in Eagle Rock.

You can get a nice, little array of beverages from them. Cider, cocktails, kombucha and yes, beer. It may not be the tip of the beer curve, but if you need to support local. It should be an option.

The Avocado is Back

One of the running jokes over the past few months has been, What Day is It? I had that same sense of time displacement when I heard that the Angel City Avocado Ale is back. Now usually, that means more green than a St. Patrick’s Day at the DTLA brewery as people line up to have guacamole and more. This year will be a more virtual Avocado toast.

Comfortable in LA

In the photo above are Creature Comforts Brewing founder David, Chris, and Adam who are bringing a bit of Georgia to Los Angeles with a new brewery and taproom next summer!

The answer as to why a a Georgia brewery would open in the gritty part of DTLA can be found in an Avengers movie. Thor was seen drinking a Creature Comforts canned beer in Endgame. Joe Russo half of the Russo Brothers directing team is a fan of the beer from filming Marvel spectaculars in the state. He has also has been in the foodie scene in LA. in the nearby Arts District.

Add it all up and it means that means we lucky LA beer fans will get some of their excellent beers fresh.

Once that blush of excitement wears off, there will be some questions. Can Creature Comforts re-create the same magic away from the home base of operations? Will L.A. breweries weakened by Covid19 be battered further by a Hollywood backed outsider?

I know that I want some Tropicalia for sure.

Mujeres Brew Club

Border X the Latino-owned brewery with locations in Barrio Logan and the City of Bell is entering another part of the family business, partnering with the Mujeres Brew Club bringing together husband and wife David and Carmen Favela. The new taproom brewery will be housed in the former Alta Brewing location as a nonprofit company with the ultimate goal of empowering women within the craft beer space.

Of all the “in limbo” brewery projects, this is one that I really hopes goes according to plan and if it succeeds the LA brewery might get a version as well.

VNBC

I noticed the logo below in my Instagram feed…

The acronym is for Van Nuys Beer Co. I sleuthed a few more clicks on the internet and noticed a familiar address on Calvert Street. As other breweries have done, MacLeod Ales has a second imprint. Where they can play in a different beer style sandbox. Where they will not incur the wrath of the “beer police”.

A Stout Shop

We are living in a to-go curbside contactless world which sucks for browsers like me. But maybe the new Stout Bottle Shop will have a nice robust online shoppe for me to wander through from the seated position. Good to have outlets for both customers and the breweries.

Paperback Brewing Sneak Peek

Over the holiday weekend Paperback Brewing opened up and I took some quick snaps from a reasonable distance to show what the space looks like, spoiler, it looks cool. The outside will fool you.
