Beer Search Party – Christmas Beer Tasting

lights

If you are a faithful reader of this beer blog, then you will have noticed the photo of me and Santa and the beer casks. That photo was chosen to draw your eye to my Holiday Beer Tasting that will be held this December the 5th at 3pm at my humble apartment that may or may not be decorated at that point.

I will be pouring seasonal beers that you may have never seen before such as Bells, Breckenridge, 3 Floyds, Southern Tier and also the grandpappy that started this all. Anchor Steam’s Our Special Ale. Feel free to bring your favorite Christmas beer to share as well!

And since charities are hurting along with the rest of us there will be beer swag for everyone who brings a check or cash for Food on Foot, a local program dedicated to helping people who need a hand up.

Archer Liquors

Whenever I feel a hankering for something different than what is in my local go to beer stores, I start searching the internet to see who ships and if they have something that I haven’t had before. Usually I end up ordering from Liquid Solutions (which is great) or from my parents (which is great because they charge way less).
For my Holiday beer tasting I wanted something really new and luckily I found Archer Liquors. They are based in Illinois and they have a really cool selection of stuff plus the people there are really nice.

Fatheads Saloon

I like to highlight beer places that are trying to do better. There are so many striving for mediocrity chains out there getting people’s hard earned money. I think more people need to go here….(if you are in the Pittsburgh area of course)

Fat Head’s Saloon is a neighborhood bar & grill on Pittsburgh’s Historic South Side. We’re not some fancy-schmancy place or fast food take-out joint where your food is kept alive by heat lamps. Everything is cooked to order. Our huge menu features Headwiches, sandwiches, burgers, wings, ribs & more. Choose from 42 craft-brewed beers on tap, and one hand-pumped “real ale.” Fat Head’s numerous awards include Best Bar Food, Best Wings, Best Burgers, and Best Beer Selection. Stop in. Chill out. Have a beer and a sandwich or somethin’.”

Beer Premiere Night

Roll out the red carpet, LA. Forget the Oscars and the Grammys. Last night brought two new and highly anticipated beers to the City of Angels.

First at the Daily Pint was Life and Limb from Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada. Sadly, Limb and Life did not make it, yet. Now this a winter warmer. As I tried to explain it to people, this beer is a porter with Sierra Nevada hoppiness on one side and Dogfish Head alcohol warmth on the other. It worked for me but it like the other beer I had are sippers.

Then I drove back across town to Blue Palms for the unveiling of Firestone-Walker 13th Anniversary. Brian Lenzo had the foresight, nay genius, to start buying these beers years ago and has amassed quite the impressive collection. He had a sampler of 10, 11, 12 and 13. The 13 was nice. You may know me as the dark beer hater but 13 had a good balance. Some liquor aroma and bite but the beer was still there and it was smooth. Plus it was good to see celebrated Celebrator writer Tomm Carroll amongst all the familiar faces. Next years vertical flight should be killer.
