Smog City is getting our hopes up for winter with….

…snow would be nice but a little dew to go with my hazy might be all I get.

These are the beers that I wish I could taste for the first time.

34 years of Black Butte. Wow. And this year Deschutes Brewing is celebrating with a Tiramisu inspired version of their yearly treat.
As we move slowly out of the sun and into fall, these big stouts are going to start looking really appealing.
If you are like me, you probably don’t drink enough sour beers. Brouwerij West can help get your tartness levels up with the flavors of mango and hibiscus in their new beer, Rock Awash.
Most Bottle Logic Brewing news regards their barrel-aged program and pastry stouts. But I would suggest looking for this Super Dry instead…
The regular Hanamachi is a great beer but this dark malt version looks good plus the label has a real Silence in the Library – River Song vibe.
If you wanted to build an IPA dream team, starting with Beachwood Brewing and Firestone Walker would be a solid choice.
I like the old travel to the Golden State bear on the label as well.
If you know an adventuresome bottle shop or one that sells more than just a couple foreign beers, you should look for cans from Japas Cervejaria.
It is a “woman-run, Japanese-Brazilian brewery based in Brazil. Founded in 2015 by Maíra Kimura, Yumi Simada and Fernanda Ueno, each of their creations is the result of a dive into their ancestry. This amalgamation of beer and history is rich in aromas, flavors and culture, with recipes that celebrate the union between Brazil and Japan in a contemporary way, without clichés or pre-established ideas.”
The founders are touring the US, I don’t see any LA stops but we are marked as one of their markets.
Two things got me to writing about a special limited release beer from Ommegang Brewing.
One – 25 freakin’ years. You can’t not celebrate that.
Two – imperial amber ale, how often you gonna see that style
oh and Three – it’s in bottles.
Here is more on the beer from the brewery, “25th Anniversary Ale is an imperial amber ale that conveys a traditional Belgian sweetness balanced with spicy citrus notes. This beer pours coppery brown with a billowy cap, and notes of lemon and white pepper flakes that are present straight away. At first sip there is a presence of sweet maltiness, that is refined by late additions of Cascade hops, resulting in a dry balanced finish.”
….and it will be in cans! This is a fall release to champion before the oncoming pumpkin storm arrives.
AleSmith Brewing is bringing back a Speedway Stout variant instead of a new one with their, Hawaiian Edition. This island favorite is the same imperial stout but brewed with Hawaiian coffee, toasted coconut and vanilla beans.
Breweries seem to be leaning back into flagships as inspiration for brand extending. Think Two Hearted or Ja Alai and their siblings.
It should come as no surprise then that Dogfish Head and Sam Adams are leveraging Utopias now as well….
To be honest, this sounds like an interesting treatment and if given a bottle would profusely thank the giver but will that be the same with the next beer in this possible series?
