New Tires

It may have been past time for New Belgium Brewing to update the Fat Tire recipe. The VooDoo Ranger series of IPAs has been ahead of the iconic Amber ale for some time now.

And the inside and outside are now new for 2023.

“Today, Fat Tire blends a subtle malt presence with a slightly fruity hop profile and crisp finish, to create a bright and balanced beer that drinks easy, anywhere.”

I might have gone with seasonal versions and used this lighter one for summer and gone with something maltier in Winter.

Gusty

Beer recipes evolve unlike people who seem to do the opposite so I was glad to see that The Bruery had re-visited Tradewinds their Belgian Tripel that was such a staple in the early days of the Orange County brewery.

Now it is a Gust of Wind described as taking “the base recipe for Trade Winds and deconstructed it to an even more classic version of an abbey tripel, allowing the fermentation characteristics from our house yeast to shine. Huge amounts of phenolic spice, just the right amount of fruity esters, crisp and dry, with enough alcohol to remind you it has backbone without being over the top. Perfect for our retro fans, drinkable enough for our new friends, and enough bite for all the big beer lovers out there.”

Camping….

…not a fan. But maybe if I had a chocolate stout like this….

…I would enjoy it more. Sage has a few L.A. locations so check them out for this beer as well as others of their canned offerings

Long Name but Melodious

Ce N’est Pas la Fin du Monde sounds very smooth on the tongue as one says it. And considering how solid the Canadian brewery Unibroue is, I would wager this IPA, though out of the Belgian wheelhouse will be good.

“Regular” La Fin du Monde is a Strong Tripel Blonde. The new twist is described as a “New World IPA with a taste of cereals and tropical fruits.”

Maybe Not So Strange Bedfellows – Part 1

Allagash Brewing Company and Crowns & Hops Brewing Co., are bringing Maine to Inglewood with Cur-8. Arriving in time for Black History Month, the new beer mashes up Crowns & Hops’ 8 Trill Pils pilsner with Allagash Curieux. A bourbon-y Tripel-esque pilsner.

Here are more details about the partnership, “Cur-8 is part of the new Eight Trillion Allies Collaboration Series that partners established breweries with Black-owned beer brands to accomplish true representation in the brewing industry. “8 Trill Pils” is named after a statistic from a W.K. Kellogg Foundation report, “Business Case for Racial Equity.” The report suggests that the U.S. stands to realize an $8 trillion gain in the national GDP by closing the racial equity gap by 2050.”
