Brass Monkey ’23

Brass Monkey from Angel City Brewery is back with the 2023 edition of the malt liquor mimosa.  The fruit this year is ruby red blood oranges.  The brewery describes it as a “light citrus aromas which lead to a boozy, medium bodied beer that’s slightly sweet to start but finishes dry with a note orange zest…”

Belgian Nitro

Just to broaden the scope from Los Angeles, how about looking out for a Belgian Quad from Kasteel’s?  A chocolate Quad no less named Barista.  And if that does not intrigue enough, there is also a nitro canned version.

Cold in the Park

Smog City Brewing is bringing back their Park Hopper IPA as the first beer in their 2023  1 Percent for the Planet Community Impact Series.

The new Park Hopper is now a 6.6% cold IPA as opposed to last year’s hazy version.

Here is some further (quite important) info, “for the 3rd year in a row, we’ve partnered with Parks California to make Park Hopper IPA to highlight & support the work they do to make our parks more welcoming, inclusive, and climate-resilient.”

More Replicants

Replicant, the super fun contract brewery from a Shell gas station in Pasadena has another new beer on the way.  But before, I show the label, do plan a visit to get the current Replicant beers.  They have cool Sci-Fi art and are fan fiction beers in the best possible sense.

Coffee IPA is a cool sub-style that, at least for me, has more hits than misses, as opposed to a Black IPA.

Take Care of Yo’ Self

Or treat yo’ self to a N/A beer from Three Magnets Brewing under their Self Care line.

Their IPA won a recent Oregonian newspaper N/A taste test AND they have a bubblegum glitter beer. You do have to buy two packs minimum so there you go for your first order.

Know Yourself

You can’t miss the Frida Kahlo mural at Trademark Brewing but you may not have seen or remember the quote from her that is on it, “I am my own muse, I am the subject I know best.”

Obviously, they needed a Kahlo inspired beer so there now is My Own Muse, a “West Coast Pilsner that features this year’s exciting hop blend of Loral, Ekuanot, and HBC 586.”

Tarot

Belgian brewer Lindemans has two new mixed fermentation beers coming out under the Tarot name.  Both are low in sugar and have no sweeteners or colorants.

“The brilliant, golden blonde Tarot d’Or has a beautiful white foam collar. The pleasant, sultry aroma refers to mango, lemon and honey melon, among other things, with nuances of ripe pear. The flavor is full, juicy and round with hints of ripe exotic fruit. The beer has a nice sweet and sour balance and a pleasant, smooth drink.

Tarot Noir is also a blend of high-fasting beer and lambic to which blueberries, blackberries and black elderberries have been added. The beer colors dark purple in the glass and has a full, compact foam collar and a sultry and intense aroma of dark and red fruit (black berry, cherry, cherry, strawberry… ). The natural flavor is juicy and round and reminiscent of red and black berries with a hint of cherries. Tarot Noir has a nice acidity and a surprisingly soft and fresh drink.”

d’Or would be my first choice but Noir sounds great too.

Corners

A usual collaboration is two breweries.  Some go to a trio.  But rare are the quadlaborations.  But Lucky Luke, Telco, Wolf Creek and Brewery Draconum are celebrating their neck of the L.A. woods with a new Cold IPA, Four Corners.
