A Variety of Pride

It seems like the beer world is challenging my now shakier stance against variety packs.  I skew more towards single sku’s.  But Sierra Nevada, Firestone Walker amongst others have me shifting.  And that shift is even more evident in this cool box from Hop Culture / Untappd / Halftime that features a Prideful group of beers.  Check out the list HERE.

Essential

Two Belgian brewing pals have come together for a new collaboration.  Ommegang and New Belgium present Belgian Essence, a “Belgian-style Tripel Ale” which “is a blend of old-world tradition with a new-world twist! It’s bright, citrusy, effervescent, and incredibly drinkable.”

Asteroids

If I had to pick a brewery to pair with film director Wes Anderson, Dogfish Head would certainly make the short list.

The latest Anderson movie is Asteroid City and Calagione and crew have “brewed with regeneratively grown pilsner malt, Tuxpeno corn malt and Zuper Saazer hops for subtle notes of savory corn and a whiff of wild blossoms and herbs, Asteroid City Lager was then finished with a mid-20th century Pennsylvania lager yeast as a nod to the 1950s era during which “Asteroid City” takes place.”

You can find the beer at Alamo Draft Houses showing the flick.  Maybe movies should get signature beers.

Ya’ Mama

If you are a fan of Ogopogo Brewing and you really like Citra, Azacca, Amarillo and Chinook hops but you also like coconut and pineapple then the new Yacumama Hazy IIIPA coming in at 10.5% should be right up your mythical creature alley.

Strawberry Fields (maybe) Forever

I don’t know where we are in the arc of fruit beers being in vogue in heavily fruited sorta sours, sorta IPA but if it means that we get fruity Berliner Weisses and Goses too, then I hope we are still in it so that we can get unique beers like a recently released Arrow Lodge strawberry beer…

Zumo

Russian River Brewing got their hoppy hands on a new hop from Segal Ranch in Washington State and punned it into Zumo Wrestling Pale Ale.  Maybe some stray cans will get to Los Angeles or you can order online.

A Cold Stone

OSide – Now I love shortening names and utilizing acronyms as much as many ‘Mericans but I might have steered clear of that as a name for a foray into Cold IPA.  But back to the beer, I am intrigued as to how Stone Brewing will handle the Cold IPA craze in their latest One Batch Dispatch.
