My gut biome and tequila don’t mix. Ditto for too much sour ale. Still, I have to admit that this Gose like sour from Paperback Brewing Co. has me intrigued.
Maybe it is the lime and coriander combo that is doing the heavy lifting for me.

These are the beers that I wish I could taste for the first time.

Guivre is a dragon-like creature. But to beer fans it is the latest Saison from San Gabriel’s Ogopogo Brewing.
Each year, Enegren Brewing releases a spring American Reinheitsgebot beer in collaboration with another pilsner friendly brewery, this year it is Firestone Walker.
“American Reinheitsgebot 2023 is a German Style Pilsner made with all American ingredients including malt from Admiral Maltings out of Alameda, CA and American grown HBC 1134 Hops, which are an American twist on classic Noble hops.”
Readers of this blog will know that I like me a clever name and Radiant Beer Co. have come up with a good one for their latest American-styled lager, My Presence is a Present.
The Anaheim brewery describes it as “…a crystal clear straw body with some tight white foam. I gift out aromas of cracker, mild malt, and delicate herbs. I’m an absolute treasure of crisp carbonation with a dry, clean profile.”
Time passes by so damn fast. Reading the evolution of the Firestone Walker – Propagator anniversary IPA’s is getting longer.
So here is a shortened piece from the FW website – “For Gen-7, we decided on a massively hoppy Double Cold IPA at 8.7% ABV brewed with pilsner malt, rice, and dextrose, which gives it a bright golden color and relatively light and dry profile for such a big beer. We built the hop blend on the classic Gen-1 mix of Citra and Mosaic, this time blending Citra with Mosaic Cryo and Mosaic Incognito in the whirlpool. Incognito is a newer type of varietal hop extract that allows us to pack in even more mosaic flavor in the brewhouse without overloading our kettles with green matter.
For the dry hop, we layered on more Citra and Mosaic Cryo, plus Strata CGX (another cryo-like concentrated hop pellet) and Rakau from New Zealand. This blend gives Gen-7 a punchy mix of citrus, stone fruit, melon, and berry flavors.”
I am glad that we here in L.A. are getting a little bit of Fremont Brewing beer. And I will be even gladder if I can find the collaboration IPA they did with local champion Beachwood Brewing.
Bravery Brewing has a new hazy IPA from their rotating Desert Creatures Series out now, featuring a cute fuzzy little creature, Tarantula.
The spider hazy “showcases Amarillo, Citra, and Ekuanot hops. This beer is citrusy and hoppy which helps make it a great fit for spring!”
One of my favorite packaging options is the stubbie glass. Maybe nostalgia for what I saw my Dad buy when I was a kid but I just love that littler bottle.
And Figueroa Mountain is bringing it back around for their Agua Sante Mexican Lager which I think is a perfect fit…
I have never in all my years of beer and beer writing seen a beer with a descriptor such as Wonderbread but it tracks for the new IPA from El Segundo Brewing, We the People aka Spirit of ’76, which, to be fair also says you will get notes of Orange Creamsicle, Citrus, Pineapple and Peach.
You may not believe it but some craft beer comes in bottles, Benny Boy Brewing has a reminder for us in their flagship Lincoln Heights Lager, could be a summer go-to…
