Citrus Blonde

January and February are now core beer news months and Smog City has a new all year beer, Citrus Blonde.  Described by the brewery as, “soft and easy-drinking,  Balancing a medley of sweet citrus fruit character and a delicate honey malt backbone, rolls out an irresistible beer sipping experience.”

Resurgence

When a brewery closes, the beers and recipes can sometimes just fade away. Maybe to be done in new forms as brewers take their talents to other breweries.

Replicant Shell the now very well known bottle shop / foreign snacks / gas station in Pasadena is doing their part in bringing back some lost beers with their new Resurgence Series that starts with….

I think it is a great idea and I hope it is a lengthy series and I hope that we will be able to find out the mystery beers behind the resurgence as well.

ESBC Day – Refined Saison

Behind the scenes, beer recipes get tweaked quite a bit. Might be due to supply issues or ingredient quality but sometimes it is because the brewer and brewery have a “could be better” attitude.

Such is the case for El Segundo Brewing who have been playing with their saison Aileron for a bit now and have come to a happy place with it now and to mark the occasion, have changed the name to ….

Look for it in better beer stores.

The Champ

Angel City, inspired by Champurrado are releasing a namesake Champurrado Ale.

Here is the brewery description: “Inspired by the chocolatey Mexican Atole, this creamy ale is made with all the champurrado fixings you can find from your local street cart: corn masa, cocoa powder, panela sugar, lactose, cinnamon, and vanilla all come together to give you a smooth, sweet ale that will warm you up with every sip.”

I call this a good use of the pastry stout category.

25 for Cascade

Two strikes firstly for this 25th anniversary release from Cascade Brewing. Star anise is not my favorite featured flavors and second, my poor tum tum can only take so much sour.

On the upside, I do like the limited tastes I have had of cascara plus the Tartini release from Cascade was great.

N/Air

Not only is N/A beer gaining on the ground but the air as well As Alaska Airlines has teamed with Best Day Brewing to offer their Kölsch on flights.  It is “the first non-alcoholic beverage to join Alaska’s premium beverage line-up. “

I know that taste buds and aroma is different at altitude which makes having any flavorful drinks a hit or miss proposition but will an N/A drink hold up better or will the weakened state get weaker?
