36 down and 14 to go!
Sometimes the mail brings you bills and sometimes the mail brings you beer (a beer on my wanted list) and beer swag.
Yesterday was the latter, so BIG, BIG thanks to the folks at Lazy Magnolia. Southern Pecan is coolin’ in the fridge and I am wearing the shirt out tonight AND tomorrow.
Today I thank Belmont Station in Portland for stocking beer from Nebraska. Nebraska Brewing’s Melange a Trois…
I have had this lovely large corked bottle of Dark Truth in my ‘fridge for awhile and finally I decided to open it. It is part of Boulevard Brewing‘s Smokestack series, of which there is lot’s of great beers. A Belgian collaboration in particular.
Now I am up to 33! But sadly no new states are in my possession. But I do have trips to the OBF and to the Stone 14th Anniversary bash so I think I may be able to tick at least 2 states of my list, if not more.
As always, any help is appreciated. Click on the PDF to your left to see what I have done and if you can help. I will donate money to a food bank in your neck of the woods.
Thanks to Beer Advocate, I was able to procure a really nice IPA from Iowa from a brewery named Peace Tree that I think people will be talking about for awhile.
…and it could be the easily shipped cans from Tallgrass Brewing!
Here is the chain of events that led the brewery to can…
“The call was from a Tallgrass drinker in western Kansas. He had about 20 empty cases of IPA bottles and boxes stacked in his garage. I guess he really likes it. He wanted to return the boxes for us to reuse, but since he was so far away, picking them up was not an option. I asked him to recycle the glass and cardboard, but he did not have a local recycler. It would all have to go to the local landfill.”
That phone call inspired Gill to look into the viability of cans. Several months later, Gill is returning from a field trip across the country to Ball Corporation where his cans are being manufactured.
Tallgrass will soon can Tallgrass Ale, Oasis, Buffalo Sweat, Kold and IPA.
I do need to add more canned beers to my 50 from 50 challenge.
Most people know Big Sky Brewing for Moose Drool brown ale. But I selected Trout Slayer Ale as the representative for Montana.
Thanks to the lovely and talented Kristine Oller, I got not one but TWO beers from New Mexico. Here is the one from Sierra Blanca Brewing that I chose.
My 50 Beers from 50 States challenge has slowed considerably. But that was to be expected. I blitzed through 25 states and now I have to do some detective work to ferret out craft beer from states with less options and even less distribution.
I was surprised by an offer of Rhode Island beer which I will talk about later and then I got these two beers from New Mexico. I feel the momentum building back up.
