Ogopogo is not resting on their anniversary laurels, they have dug into more mythology to come up with, ‘Häkuturi’ is a Double Dry Hopped Hazy Double IPA using only New Zealand hops: Southern Cross, Waimea, and Wakatu. Get yourself a can to learn about the the trees.
Not the Bees Knees
Admit it, you saw the Brouwerij West name and thought IPA. But this new beer, Bears Ears, is a Märzen lager bier. Per the brewery, “German malts are the driving force behind this wonderfully delicious seasonal offering, with a slight sweetness quickly giving way to rich, toasty-bread crust qualities.”
Featured 19.2 Review – Carlsberg Danish Lager
I haven’t had a Carlsberg in a long time but at the price that my local Trader Joe’s was selling them, I couldn’t pass it up. Here is my review of the stovepipe can of the Danish Lager.
Well, technically not a stovepipe, but it is above 16oz even if by just an almost ounce, so I am counting it. Pours super clear. Darker yellow than expected and a lingering foam to it as well. First note is pear. A little dry. A bit sweet close to honey note. Not super grain forward. A bit slick. No snap to it.
Rue the Marzen
The Bruery is not just a one trick pony. They have pastry stouts, hazy IPA’s, Bruesicles and barrel-aged sours and what I am even more excited for, Ruekeller. A series of lagers. Next up and in limited supply is the fall Märzen .
“Brewed with premium German grain and hops, including Magnum and Saphir— this medium-bodied lager has an enticing aroma of toasted malt and herbal characteristics from the German hops. These toasted flavors complement the slight bitterness from the hops for a perfectly refreshing experience.”
CCBA 30 in Liquid Form
The California Craft Beer Summit started yesterday but the first full day of events in Long Beach start today and to celebrate 30 years of California brewing, there is a celebratory beer, 30 Years Strong brewed with a group led by Three Weavers.
Get on the Bus
LA Beer Hop has been ferrying beer fans all over the Southland and now they have a Juicy DIPA named in their honor, Hop on the Bus is brewed by Los Angeles Ale Works to celebrate the Beer Hop’s 7th year in operation. The beer uses Norwegian Kveik yeast and Idaho 7 hops and a new experimental hop called HBC 472.
More Sierra Haze
Seeing the success of Hazy Little Thing, the hop masters of the bi-coastal Sierra Nevada have created a bigger brother for the brand in the same 12oz container. I would have thought that a little brother might have been a better choice considering the marketplace but I as a beer geek will be seeking this one out.
Last Lodging
Brouwerij West has been quietly notching some impressive collaboration partners like Great Notion most recently and now a new (closer) brewery in Pizza Port. Hotel Zebra is filled with Idaho 7, Comet, Simcoe and Citra to meld that dank San Diego Pizza Port profile to the softer and hazier Brouwerij West.
Belgian to Fruited IPA
Canada’s Unibroue, long home to well-done Belgian ales is starting a new line of IPA under the Autre Chose banner. First up in 16oz cans (of course) is a Peach IPA.
Autre Chose means “something else”, and is certainly apart from their core line-up.
The new IPA is, according to the press release, “Dry-hopped, single-fermented and unfiltered, the 6% ABV Autre Chose Peach IPA is brewed with Cascade, Galaxy, Citra and Lemondrop hops. The beer pours a royal gold with orange highlights, boasting a bright white head that blankets a delicate bouquet of aromas.”
Awww!
I am a bit worn down by the special hazy 16oz can releases as I am sure others are, so I found it especially astute of the marketing folk at Offshoot to release their next duet of IPA’s with this label…
Aside from the Z usage, this is a clever way to get above the noise and supply. The charcoal look and the hook of using cats and dogs is a good choice.
