I really love the mythical creatures, like the Ponaturi, that Ogopogo Brewing puts on their labels. And I also really love that they have seemed to have found a niche in dry hopped lagers. Bonus points to beer fans who have had a beer with the hop known as “the Bruce”.
Not the Green Room
Burnin’ Daylight has a added a new can to their roster and it is a scenic California view. A West Coast IPA to take to the beach, when it I see times to go back to the beach and not because you are tired of being in your house.
Trust the Haze
When I see pink on a beer label, I immediately think that the hop blend is going to be good. Trustworthy got their hands on this year’s Pink Boots blend and has recently released a DDH hazy but in the pale format.
Enegren + Bierstadt
Whenever beer talk turns to Denver, one of the first breweries you hear about is Bierstadt Lagerhaus. Now you can taste why as they have collaborated with our own Enegren Brewing.
If that pilsner tastes half as good as it looks in that glass, then it will be a treat. Enegren is shipping in California too.
Less Deal, More Devil
Well, I should have known that the fervent beer traders would not be slowed by a Virus. Apparently, the beer seller, Tavour got cans of wax dipped (?) Barleywine and were able to sell it for $50! Now, I have not had Anchorage beers lately but I know of their high reputation. But that is not a price I would pay for any one can of beer because my expectations would never meet the actual experience. And I certainly wouldn’t get in the way of those who think they MUST have it.
Review – 2 from Angel City
Thanks to the kindness of Angel City, I got the chance to try two new lighter beers from the DTLA brewery. Here are the quick reviews…
To Live and Thai in L.A. – I expected a little more lime zing or a bit something extra from this pilsner. It is solid, I would have liked it a bit more crisp and less bready but mostly was looking for the Thai part of it.
L.A. Blonde – First off, I am a Timbers fan so this beer, clothed in LAFC colors needed to win me over, and it did. It had the easy drinking blonde ale down. Looked a very pretty, bright yellow and hit the malt notes and mouthfeel that I expected.
16 Ounces of Rasputin
North Coast is putting their flagship Old Rasputin into 16oz cans and I am torn. I do not think it is a 16oz type of beer. To me it is more a 10oz specialty bottle, that packaging would have you sipping more carefully, to wring every last drop out of it.
Heroes
Now this is a two-fer. One, you support a local brewery in these struggling times and Two, you are helping UCLA’s Covid 19 crew since part of the proceeds go to a fund for these hopefully “sung” heroes. Kudos to Santa Monica Brew Works. The hazy IPA uses the Pink Boots hop blend so you are showing support to that fantastic organization as well.
Stirring the Crazy
Boomtown Brewery is here to help with your staying at home needs with their new hazy, Stir Crazy.
Here are the beer details: “The beer itself is a Hazy IPA brewed with Mosaic, Hull Melon & Chinook Hops with flavors of Ripe Pineapple, Lychee and Bartlett Pear. Stir Crazy has a choice price point of $16 per 4-pack, and is only available in a can.”
“It will be available for contactless pickup on Friday at their brewery, and can be preordered online here.”
Amarilla Gorilla Canned
For the first time ever, Smog City Brewing will be putting their yearly Amarilla release into cans. Cause Grodd loves cans and so does Grape Ape. Sorry, went all cartoony there. 4-packs will be available on the 17th.
