It can be a fun game to predict which breweries might collaborate on a beer. I certainly did not have Tarantula Hill and Mumford on my collaboration bingo card. But here they are with a Beastie of a hazy IPA complete with a dangerous robot.
A New Catalyst
Chrome books for students has never been more important so it is great to see that the new Peoples Republic of South Central has a new beer coming to help those who need a digital leg up. And if there first beer is a starting point, this beer should grow the quality.
Oh So
AleSmith has a new IPA collaborator, Alvarado Street Brewery, Oso Under a West coast IPA with hops from down “under” Australia and New Zealand hops (Galaxy, Vic Secret & Nelson).
Clean Up
The combo of Brewjeria, South Central Brewing and Norwalk Brew House are back at it with another charity beer…
“Our newest collaboration to benefit car wash workers has a label, is being brewed this week and will be out in January! Once again we have awesome artwork by @laloalcaraz1 with layout by @hopsandhues.
@brewjeriacompany, @norwalkbrewhouse & @south_central_brewing_company have teamed up with the CLEAN Carwash Worker Center – to improve upon the original wheat ale with pineapple and mango that supported street vendors.
Car wash workers in Los Angeles County have been hurt badly by COVID-19. To help alleviate some of the financial burdens, we have partnered together for this special collaborative project.
A portion of proceeds of this special beer will support the car wash workers’ emergency fund, a cash assistance program that is providing workers with cash and/or grocery gift cards. The fund is being organized by car wash workers and the leadership of the CLEAN Carwash Worker Center.
Los Car-Washeros will be released January 2021 – available to-go in four packs (16oz cans) from our Pico Rivera location. As well as select retail stores.”
Is it Big or Little?
The Little Thing series from Sierra Nevada is getting a big brother as their new Imperial IPA comes aboard. It is “a 9% ABV, smooth malt body and mega-tropical hops, yet its sweetness is discreet and the finish is clean.”
The brewery adds, “To make it happen, we max out the mash and dry-hop a lot. And dry-hopping during active fermentation sparks biotransformation: yeast cells alter the chemical compounds in hops to unlock entirely new aromas—like the notes of mango, grapefruit, and tangerine billowing from Big Little Thing.”
Beachwood In Space
Joining Hopernicus In the sky of hops is a new Beachwood IPA, Hoperbolic. It may not be a Christmas themed beer but I think many a hop fan w ould like a 4-pack underneath the Christmas tree.
Mountain Towers
The mountains surrounding LA are a bit cluttered but there are local landmarks as well and Trustworthy Brewing is “paying homage to the radio towers on top of the Verdugo Mountains overlooking Burbank” with two DDH DIPA’s, one for each tower.
Tower 1 is brewed with Pilsner malt and heavily dry-hopped with Simcoe, Azacca, and Comet hops. Giving it a light color and sweet pineapple flavor. Tower 2 is brewed with 2-row malt and equally graciously dry-hopped with Mosaic and Azacca hops. Giving this beer a deep golden appearance and a sweet hoppy bitterness.
What a View
El Segundo has found a winning design template for their latest Tone Series IPAs. I really liked the green of the softball field on a previous can, and now we are treated to the expanse of sand along with a solitary tower and transport. Many are working with new views from home but this one is a great workplace.
Oh, and the beer inside is…
Style: West Coast IPA (obviously)
Hops- LORAL / Centennial / Idaho 7
Thanks to Offshoot
Time to have a hoppy but distanced Turkey Day with….
Distanced Hop Luck – “This modern West Coast IPA features loads of Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Centennial hops. Clocking in at 45 IBU, Distanced Hopluck is bright with intense aromatics, and refreshing on the palate with light bitterness. Pair with your Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving celebrations!”
or
Friendsgiving – “We’re making Friendsgiving virtual this year! This hazy double IPA features Galaxy, Mosaic, Motueka, and Cashmere hops resulting in a juicy concoction bursting with intense tropical fruit flavors and a hint of dankness. Pair with a Distanced Hopluck or your potluck!”
Hops in the Sky
I find that returning after an absence beers to be just as exciting as brand new beers and that goes double when it is a returning IPA from Beachwood Brewing. Hopernicus is another excellent Shrago DIPA. Catch it quick.
