One Farm

Once upon a time there was the single hop beer, then there was the SMASH beer. Single malt, single hop. Now, dialing it in further is the single hop, single farm IPA. Block 15 in Corvallis, Oregon (Go Beav’s) is putting the hop farm name right on the label. Other beers have done single farm IPA’s but the farm info is in the press release and not on the can.

Having that farm name is a great way to show the agriculture behind the beer.

Changing Times

Boomtown Brewery  has “changed” up their latest Artist canned IPA with Changeling.  Here is more info from the DTLA brewery. “Designed by the artist, activist and environmental consultant Lucia Gaia Pohlman , Changeling was born out of the chaos of 2020 and is a call to invite us to examine our place in the world and consciously decide how we step into a new future together with a beer in hand.

The artist describes the work as, “Not quite humanoid creatures dancing in a new way.” These figures house a wallop of delight in the form of a Hazy DIPA, that clocks in at 8.4% ABV and IBU 35. The beer has a nose of Guava, Orange Creamsicle, Hop Spice with flavors of Pomelo, Lemon Pith and Peach. Made with Galaxy, Mosaic and Cascade hops.”

Green Ghost

Enegren Brewing recently releases a new rotating Hop pilsner using “Grüngeist hops, meaning “green ghost” in German, lend flavors of peach, passionfruit, and lemon zest giving this pilsner a slight fruitiness with a crisp finish.”

I had never heard of this hop before and I found you haven’t either, this might be a great way to start sampling these single hop pilsners.

Two Bright

Last week, Los Angeles Ale Works released two pale ales with artwork by Brady Smith.

Here are the beer details straight from the brewery:
Cannonball Kid (Juicy Pale Ale 6.0%) features El Dorado and Cascade hops. Resinous notes of grapefruit and mango gummy bears.
Pugapalooza (Pale Ale 6.0%sports Sabro, Sultana, and El Dorado hops to lead you down the road to tropical notes of guava and passionfruit.

-imbo Pils

Highland Park Brewery is known for their pilsners, and rightfully so, and they have a new one for you….

Here are the details including a worthy cause associated with the beer –

“Jimbo Pils is a 5.5%ABV wicked hoppy Pilsner hopped with Strata, Mosaic, & NZ Cascade. This beer explodes right from the can with aromas of juicy mango, fresh pineapple, citrus zest, & big passion fruit. Jimbo is very similar to Timbo Pils but has a lighter body with a lighter malt presence & lower bitterness. Our brewer Keenan describes Jimbo Pils as “a tropical crispy boy!”

A portion of the proceeds from Jimbo Pils will be going to an organization that is very important to James, @hemosocal. This organization helps families & people with Hemophilia, or other bleeding disorders, get the resources they need & have been helping the SoCal community since 1954. Check out the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California’s page for more info & to see how you can help support. “

Bear on the Water

I wasn’t a big fan of the label art on the Surfin’ Bird IPA collaboration which makes a background appearance in the new IPA and doubling down on clothes wearing cartoon animals is giving me some Hanna Barbera vibes that I don’t associate with bitter beers.

That being said, I would bet that the beer inside the can from Pizza Port and El Segundo will be quite good and that is not any Hong Kong Fooey.

CAN-ador

It’s the tiny mysteries that sometimes excite the most, like this….

What will Cellador be putting into these cans? Their palate cleansing Pilsner? One of their cocktail inspired ales? Or something with peaches. What will it be?

Arigato

The cat puns continue at Party Beer Co. with their new Ariosto a 5% ABV Japanese lager describes by the brewery as “Crisp and ultra-dry, hopped with Slovenian Celeia.”

Though cats are dangerous enough without giving them weaponry.
