Wanna show your next level, Cicerone style knowledge of beer? How about sporting a colorful t-shirt representation of the Standard Reference Method (SRM). Basically, what color is my beer. Would make for a great selfie with your next beer. You can buy one HERE.
Beach Shoppe
No, you cannot order beer to be delivered when you go to the new Beachwood Brewing online shop. But, you can now order t-shirts and hats and other sundry items to be delivered to you, or as gifts. Keep in mind the next time you have a birthday coming up for the beer geeks in your life.
And since you will be on the site, you can check out their event page too.
Pre-Calc
A little pre-knowledge can go a long way. It can be helpful to have a device to figure out what your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is after you have had a beer or three, but what if you want to prepare before?
Well, I just noticed tucked away on the CraftBeer.Com website a handy little tool that can give you some approximate BAC levels so that you can plan a tap take-over or special release a little smarter.
Check out the calculator HERE.
Obviously, this is an estimate. But it is helpful to run scenarios.
Mapquest
Be on the lookout for the Version 2.0 fold out map of all the OFFICIAL L.A. craft breweries brought to you by the L.A. County Brewers Guild. And wonder at the fact that the big number stands at 60!
Re-Crowler
Looks like the next packaging step is close to upon us…..
Oskar Blues has taken that step by adding a new lid and cap to the traditional crowler. Will this put the final nail in the growler? Or can both coexist?
Jetsons Furniture
I am skeptical when it comes to beer gear. I prefer to spend geek out over glassware or ingredients and not some fancy way to open a bottle.
That being said, this is a pretty cool and futuristic way to chill beer and make your regular Untappd check-ins….
Not sold on the name Sobro though. Sounds like a Ikea’fied version of So Bro! That has not stopped backers of the prototype though which has screamed past its flexible go with months to spare.
Plus you can put your beer books on it.
Keg Dolly
There are times in my beer journey where I see a piece of equipment that blows me away in how it makes getting craft beer into a glass easier.
When I first saw the “flux capacitor” at Beachwood was one such a-ha! moment, and even simpler is this….
…the keg dolly. I have seen kegs wrestled with, sorta loaded onto hand trucks and pushed and pulled inside coolers but until recently, I had not seen this great little solution.
Maybe I haven’t been paying attention but I expect that I will be seeing them more now.
Out Back
Los Angeles has had some controversy with granny apartments and AirBnB. Structures in the backyards that pay the bills for the main house since LA property costs are sooo high.
Maybe there is another use for the backyard….
The website Wide Open Country posted about Bar Sheds recently and it almost made me wish, I had a backyard where I could serve up my beer. (and relieve my wife from my hoarding ‘fridge space).
I have been to a couple and like the atmosphere of garden and kegs.
No Drinking in Here
Why must we drink in the bathroom?
Why?
Can we not put down our glass/bottle/can for a few minutes? Same with phones. We need to return to the days of single-tasking.
Or just hasten the demise of western culture and buy it HERE.
Words, Words, Words
I had a phase where a lot of my beer reviews, either in writing or verbally had the word “medicinal” in them. It was stuck in my head. The beer equivalent of an earworm.
Hopefully, my language has grown to be more precise and descriptive since then but even the best could use a refresher and the handy “word” guide from Beer Tasting Mastery should be consulted the next time you are stuck for just the right word.
