Start Spiking

It might be too early to be thinking of Christmas but when I saw this Hop Exploration Set, I figured that it was OK to feature it.

33 Books does a lot of great gift sets but this kit will further the hop education of the Hop Head on your gift list.

Works pretty simply…
Insert Beer. Fill each tasting glass with 4 ounces of neutral beer (industrial lagers work well).
Drop Hops. Add 2-3 drops of Bert’s Beer Baster,™ a different variety in each glass. Four different varieties are included in the set.
Taste. Compare and contrast. Use the included hop-focused beer journals to help guide your tasting.”

You have all you need to learn and then test yourself and your friends on your bitter knowledge.

from the Untappd Podcast – Part 2

Part two of the Untappd podcast news comes from Carlsberg with some new packaging, the Snap Pack.

Instead of using plastic rings, or the bio-degradable rings or the plastic snap-on lids, the Danish mega-brewery is using dots, with glue that will bind the cans together enough to be moved about but still easy enough to pull apart.

It is in only the UK market to start but maybe this is something that can catch on here, if the price is right.

All the Packaging

Wine Enthusiast recently posted this…

…a handy size chart of ALL of the bottles.

Now if I had any design skills at all, I would have created TWO beer versions. Thankfully Vinepair did all the heavy lifting…

To be honest, I have never/ever seen a Nip-Pony-Grenade or a Caguama-Ballena so maybe that is the internet making things up.

Now This is a Beer Shirt

Even though the missus and I are now without cat for the first time in our married lives, cat related items hold a bittersweet allure. But this…

…actually brought a smile. Maybe I will run across a brewery cat soon and be able to utter this phrase.

33 Fresh Hops

With hop harvesting probably winding down. Thanks hot summer for speeding up the process! It is time to drink up those freshies. And to put them into your journal, your green journal as 33 Bottles of Beer Fresh Hop Edition beer journal is printed in green ink with green staples.

This is a limited edition beer ticker book that also is perfect for other Non-West-Coast IPA’s. Your haze, lactose, glitter IPA for example.

Descriptors are IPA-centric with ‘dank,’ ‘herbal/grassy,’ ‘citrus,’ ‘floral,’ and even ‘vegetal,’ to help you hone in on what you are tasting.

The fresh hop edition is available now for $5 each.

Merch Table

If you have sweated out or spilled beer on your beer t-shirts, maybe it is time to throw out the old and online order the new.

Here are two shirts that I think are cool…

Do We Need This? Beer Foaming Mug

So my latest beer party was a bust because the beer wasn’t foamy enough, said no one ever. But apparently it is a major problem. Enough for a food grade plastic solution!

For a mere $21.99 plus tax and shipping/handling you can get a beer foaming mugh. Whoops. Freudian typing slip mixing mug with ugh.

Why they don’t have a tulip glass, pilsner glass and stange style available is beyond me. And how long until that cheap yellow clicker gets broken?

SO NOT NEEDED!

Look at the Bottom

I confess that I am one of those single can/bottle buyers. As with books, I don’t have time in this lifetime to buy a case and then drink it within the best by time frame. But, Brouwerij West may convince me to do otherwise. Not only are their cans a fabulous palette for design, the bottom of the case trays are too!

Now you can drink one of their hazy IPA’s or a Popfuji and then send a postcard once the can is empty.

Spontaneous Shirt

I saw this posted somewhere on Facebook and instead of just liking it, I thought to myself that this would be a great shirt for all the L.A. breweries that have coolships to add to the Brewers Guild merch choices. Or maybe Hopped LA can add it to their roster.

VendMo

Pardon the grainy photo with the dog ear visible, I cribbed it from the recent Beer Advocate quarterly to add to my growing list of good ideas, that I wish would be done in Los Angeles…..

A vending machine filled with beers but you don’t know what you gonna’ get. What a great way to promote lesser explored beers, breweries and styles. And the random nature of it would make this so fun.
