How Heavy?

What makes a Friday better? A new beer bottle release and pizza. On September 28th, Yorkshire Square in Torrance will release How Heavy This Mash, English Barleywine. And invite Enduro Pizza over too.

And there will be a special oaked version of the beer on cask that night as well.

The Mark

There is a mark on Torrance now because Yorkshire Square Brewery has become only the second brewery in all of California to have the Cask Marque affixed to their brewery.

Cask Marque’s Certificate of Excellence “recognizes the high standards necessary for a great cask ale program so that beer drinkers can know that a particular establishment is a likely site for the sublime experience for which proper cask ale is held in high regard.” The brewery is checked twice a year to make sure they stay up to snuff.

You can see the other locations at the Cask Marque’s Cask Finder listing

British Rooster in LA

Tomorrow night at Barbara’s at the Brewery Rooster’s Brewing Co. and their head brewer, Oliver Fozard will be bringing their beers to L.A. and will co-mingle with three California breweries who admire their British beers.

Beers from Yorkshire Square Brewery, Freewheel Brewing Company, and Green Cheek Beer Co. will be on tap and Andy Black of Yorkshire Square and Fozard will be on hand to chat about beer and possibly argue.

The tap list (still up in the air):

Yorkshire Squares in Torrance

Capture
Thankfully the latest brewery that I have heard about on the way won’t be in Torrance. It will be in “old” Torrance. Yorkshire Square Brewery will be focusing exclusively on the English-style cask-conditioned beer. Plus they will have food too!

The venture is headed by Gary Croft, a former Leeds, England native. They have also recently nabbed Andy Black as the head brewer. Black, you will recall, started the casks rolling at MacLeod’s before a brief stint at El Segundo.

More news as it comes in. Look for a later this year opening.
