I was driving my wife out to the westside on a recent weekend and took the opportunity to make a side trip to Westchester to watch the planes come in. Wait, no, I went to a place that people from Smog City and El Segundo Brewing have been talking up, Cinco. This place does Oaxacan style Mexican food alongside the cocktails and this nice craft beer list.
I ordered up the Sabre Tooth Squirrel and it came in (horrors) a frosted glass. I almost sent it back when the bartender started telling me about plans for a Smog City event they were planning for L.A. Beer Week. Good to get a heads-up but after he went back to tend to other customers, I had a few more sips and the beer didn’t have the same flair and was a little caramely for my taste.
Since I was here not only for the craft beer I ordered up a the Al Pastor Burrito and it arrived in record time. It was fine. Nothing mind blowing but a solid and filling burrito. I watched some X Games while I ate and looked around the space.
My guess was that it was an old diner back in the day that had been painted black and had tables taken out for more bar space and mingling areas. Not a lot of seating (and some it looked better good in the space but didn’t look comfortable) for a dinner but a good amount of room for a beer and some food. They have a few selected beers for early happy hour pricing of $4. Which is good for this part of town. One of those options was Good Ship ESB from Noble. A great deal for that great beer.
I like the look of the place and the beer list. I will have to check out other menu items and ask for a non-frosty glass next time though.
