My favorite beer from last year’s Canfest was Velvet Rooster from Tallgrass out of Kansas. Now there is a new canned addition by the name of 8 Bit.
And much like the Hopworks Galactic Red, the design is the old school computer look.
50 from 50 – Kansas
One of the states that I thought I would never get! Thanks to Tallgrass for increasing distribution so that I could sample their line of great beers.
an Oasis of Tallgrass
Tallgrass is a Kansas based brewery that is into the can thing. This beer caught my eye recently…
OASIS
(ABV 7.2%, 93 IBU)
“Oasis is a Double ESB/IPAish beer that came about from playing around with one of Jeff’s favorite homebrew recipes. Here at Tallgrass we love malt and we love hops, and this beer has both of them in record quantities; well, at least records for our baby brewery.
As our summer seasonal at 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis is a big beer that has to be priced a bit higher than our regular line of beers. We think that once you taste the over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone you will realize why it’s worth it.”
Needed! Beer from Kansas….
…and it could be the easily shipped cans from Tallgrass Brewing!
Here is the chain of events that led the brewery to can…
“The call was from a Tallgrass drinker in western Kansas. He had about 20 empty cases of IPA bottles and boxes stacked in his garage. I guess he really likes it. He wanted to return the boxes for us to reuse, but since he was so far away, picking them up was not an option. I asked him to recycle the glass and cardboard, but he did not have a local recycler. It would all have to go to the local landfill.”
That phone call inspired Gill to look into the viability of cans. Several months later, Gill is returning from a field trip across the country to Ball Corporation where his cans are being manufactured.
Tallgrass will soon can Tallgrass Ale, Oasis, Buffalo Sweat, Kold and IPA.
I do need to add more canned beers to my 50 from 50 challenge.
