On Sunday, September 15th Rock & Brews in El Segundo celebrates their 3rd Annual Local Craft Beer Festival from 12-5PM

Here is the information from their press release, “This will be a beer fest of unrivaled magnitude; both a beer fest to pay homage to the booming local craft beer scene of Los Angeles, and secondly, a Rock & Roll circus extravaganza! Yes, you read that correctly. 15 of the best local craft breweries that LA has to offer will be present, showcasing and pouring their delicious liquid goodness. The breweries will be bringing both flagship beers, and beers so rare, you have a better chance of spotting Big Foot than these beers anywhere else. To accompany the beer, there will be many fun carnival-esque games such as dunk tanks, high-strikers and more. Try your luck to win the games and receive weird, whacky, and fun prizes! Bring the whole family! Great beer, food, music, games, and freakshow costumes all rolled into one great event.”

Non-drinking ticket includes: sodas, cotton candy, popcorn, and unlimited games! Food includes: Tri-tip and pulled pork sliders, pretzels and more for sale.”

Rock & Brews goes Local

There is a lot of talk about the soon to be expansion of Rock and Brews franchises and Gene Simmons of KISS being involved but what you should be talking about is their Local Craft Beer Festival which is now in it’s second year. Below is the details and the brewery list. It is a killer list of locals….

The 2nd Annual Local Craft Beer Festival at Rock & Brews
this Sunday, June 17th 2012 from 11am – 4pm

“Enjoy the fresh and unique beers from local breweries at the the 2nd Annual Rock & Brews Craft Beer Festival. We have brought together the best local breweries in Southern California representing LA, Orange, Ventura, and Riverside Coounties. Limited, seasonal, and special beers will be available. Along with many of the your favorites. It’s a great time to be a beer drinker, so come celebrate the men and women who make it happen!”

Sunday in El Segundo

So I returned 24 hours later to pretty much the same spot in El Segundo to attend the debut of Mountain Goat beers in the U.S. at Rock & Brews.

Chico, Melbourne, Paso Robles and San Diego.

Goes to show that great beer can come from anywhere. One of those came a little bit further though.
The two Goats that you will see most often here in the states.

Both the Australian Pale Ale and the Hightail utilize the galaxy hop which we here in California don’t see a lot of examples in the craft beer market. Due to my recent preference for lighter ABV brews, the Australian Pale was my favorite. It really showcased the galaxy and had a nice bitter kick to it. The Hightail should win some barley wine fans though. Much bigger and maltier. A muscular beer for sure.
Coffee meet IPA

The third beer that was poured was the intriguing Coffee IPA. To me it had three stages on the palate. First was a hit of bitterness followed by a red bell pepper flavor that melted into a mild coffee note at the back end. Quite different from the usual coffee/porter combo. This would really work well with Japanese food.
The Mountain Goats at Rock & Brews

You will be seeing their beer at BevMo’s around town and I strongly suggest picking up a bottle (or two). SoCal beer geeks (myself included) need to continue to taste what the entire world has to offer our lucky cosmopolitan city. We need to remember to support any and all craft beer.
