East Coast Day – Nitro 3

I have not had Three Philosophers Quadrupel from Ommegang in quite some time but I guess the magpie in me likes shiny new things like Nitro.

According to the brewery, “The smoothness of the nitro brings out the cherry and brown sugar notes, leaving you with even more to think about. Just rouse and pour aggressively for a beautiful cascade that will quickly dissipate into a surprisingly crushable quad.”

Just might pick one up next time I see it.

Essential

Two Belgian brewing pals have come together for a new collaboration.  Ommegang and New Belgium present Belgian Essence, a “Belgian-style Tripel Ale” which “is a blend of old-world tradition with a new-world twist! It’s bright, citrusy, effervescent, and incredibly drinkable.”

Review – Ommegang All Hallows Treat

If anything screams Halloween, this treat from Ommegang Brewing does…

My first two words for this beer are sweet and sweet. This is a Halloween treat yo’ self for damn sure. The beers pours pitch black and initially has a big chocolate aroma. Flavor wise, it is a mix of milk and dark chocolate and quite roasty. For me, the peanut butter promised on the label us too faint. As it warms, more peanut aroma and taste arrive, but it is not peanut butter.

25 for Ommegang

Two things got me to writing about a special limited release beer from Ommegang Brewing.

One – 25 freakin’ years.  You can’t not celebrate that.

Two – imperial amber ale, how often you gonna see that style

oh and Three – it’s in bottles.

Here is more on the beer from the brewery, “25th Anniversary Ale is an imperial amber ale that conveys a traditional Belgian sweetness balanced with spicy citrus notes. This beer pours coppery brown with a billowy cap, and notes of lemon and white pepper flakes that are present straight away. At first sip there is a presence of sweet maltiness, that is refined by late additions of Cascade hops, resulting in a dry balanced finish.”

Santa’s Pint Glass – Day 28

Nearing the end. Hard to pick at this point but I lean again, like yesterday to spices associated with the season, something nice from Ommegang.

“Lightly dusted with spices of the season, Everything Nice is a warming, wintry Belgian-style blonde ale. This supremely cozy confection pairs perfectly with any traditional holiday treat. Note the flavors of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and white pepper as you sip next to the fireplace. We hope this fresh-baked offering brings warmth and light to you and yours.”

3 Three Philosophers

Three Philosophers can now be a three-way taste test as their are two wildly divergent variants to check against the original which is already a blend to begin with. I would tend towards the bourbon version. Blueberries can be hit or miss in beers especially one that is plenty flavorful already.
