Stone Brewing has done a good job of retiring then bringing back old favorites by not going too overboard on but also not letting interest flag in beers like the newly back Old Guardian Barleywine. Though I do think that a 12oz can would be better for such a big beer.
Old Guardian 2012
The 2012 version of the classic barley wine from Stone will be hitting shelves in two days but even better, tomorrow at the World Bistro and Gardens, starting at 11am, you will have the opportunity to try this year’s model as well as the the previous 12 vintages. And that includes the VERY LAST CASE of ’99. The old century’s barley wine is almost history.
Quingenti Millilitre – Round 2
Well, no phone calls or e-mail from Stone Brewing. SO it appears I was not one of the lucky ones to win the first offering in the Quingenti Millilitre series. But now the second is on it’s way…..
There will be an aged Bourbon Belgo as well.
I am sure these will sell-out and probably most will be aged even further by those lucky to get one.
If you have Tuesday, September 27th off and you want to get a jump on Christmas, head on down to Escondido and buy the almost on shelves history of Stone book with the very long title. Each book you buy gives you the opportunity to buy one of these three new Quingenti’s. Plus you can get them signed by Greg Koch, Steve Wagner and Randy Clemens.
BONUS – Video Review – Old Guardian Belgo ’11
I was lucky enough to get the 2011 Stone Old Guardian and it’s sibling beer the Old Guardian Belgo in February. I vacillated between what to do with them. Drink them up the minute they hit the right temperature? Cellar them? Break them out and do a tasting?
So I split the difference. I took one to a St. Patrick’s day party to go with corned beef. And now I will review the Belgo…..
