Acreage

Time to talk agriculture AND business.  One intersection point is the planning of which and how many hops to grow.  It is hard to make such estimates into the future but with craft brewing slower than the past, the amount of hops needed is lower.

The USDA is forecasting that, in the Northwest, hop acreage for harvest will be down 8% from 2023. The biggest hop varietals, Citra and Mosaic were reduced the most as growers are trying to balance out their portfolios.

Might be more reductions and varietal shifts coming.  It is serious logistical work being a hop grower.

Stacked

Russian River keeps on with the hops and one of these days, I will be a Johnny on the spot and order before they are sold out. And Mosaic Stack will be first on my shopping list. The only issue is that you have to buy a case.

Fandom

I know that the label for the new Mosaic hopped IPA from Stone Brewing is targeted at IPA Diehard Fans but I could see this as something that could be brand widened to include the colors or logo of local teams around the country. Stone could even make a Charger version for when they finish their season outside of the playoffs. Nice little, this is what happens when you leave San Diego nudge.

Review – Sunbather # 3 (Mosaic)

I returned home from Paso Robles in time to find the latest Sunbather, # 3 on my step.

Here is my review of this new-ish Angel City kettle sour…

# 3 is briefly tart, then the hops stride in and then quickly the light malt makes an entrance. This series has been good at each turn. The dark yellow hues beer shifts flavors fast from lemon to wheat. Glad it is a 16oz can because this goes quick. I don’t get tropical and floral but I really like the hoppy aroma and lemon.
