Sean Suggests for April 2024

Time to play, one of these things is not like the other. I am a fan of collaborative beers and so that is two-thirds of the theme this month.

Enegren Brewing / Bierstadt Lagerhaus American Reinheitsgebot – 4.8% – “Being two breweries that share a passion for exceptional, filtered, and crisp German lagers, we decided to brew one of our all-time favorite beers for this year’s American Reinheitsgebot: an American Helles Lager. This classic beer is crafted with American malt and hops, staying true to its style. Make sure to swing by Frühlingsfest and grab a taste before it disappears!”

Santa Monica Brew Works Todo Chido Mexican-Style Lager – 5% – “this crisp Mexican-style ‘surfveza’ is pure golden refreshment. Enjoy the bright, well-balanced taste with delicate notes of orange blossom and a touch of tangelo.”

Wagon Wheel Brewing / Tarantula Hill Wagon Full of Tarantulas –  6% – “We set out to brew a Hazy Single IPA and the resulting brew is a Tropical fruit bomb that is out of this world! Wagon Full of Tarantulas is a Hazy IPA featuring HBC 630 and Mosaic hops. This beer is layered with flavors of papaya, grapefruit and pineapple.”

Golden

Norwalk Brew House has a new Mexican-Style lager with a golden twist, Agua De Oro.

Here is the write-up from the brewery, “This beer is an homage to Latinas in professional sports and women in the commercial brewing industry.

In honor of Latino Heritage Month, we partnered with 4x Olympian Brenda Villa whose Hall of Fame career and 4 Olympic medals has earned her the distinction of being the most decorated athlete in the world for women’s water polo.  As a first generation Mexican-American, Brenda’s story exemplifies what it means to live the American dream. Agua De Oro amplifies Villa’s achievements while doing good in the process.

If honoring an Olympian wasn’t enough, the beer also “serves as a fundraiser benefiting The Brenda Villa Foundation, the nonprofit organization that supports youth aquatic programs in underserved communities.”

Mexican Lager Showdown

Arts District Brewing is known for their beer judging and on Sunday the 26th they will open their patio to Mexican-Style Lagers brewed right here in L.A.

24 (yes, you read that number correctly) of the L.A. County Brewers Guild will have lagers at the ready AND A dollar from all pints & half pints goes back to the guild.

Winners will be announced and you can agree or disagree after that. What you will agree on, is that the beers were good.

Stubbie Cerveza

I was a bit disappointed when Full Sail Brewing put their classic Session lager in 12oz cans. I understood from a business standpoint but the stubbie bottle was what made the beer an extra layer of cool.

Now to calm me they have unveiled more stubbies with a new style and bold color scheme…

…and once I see these in stores, I will be grabbing a handful of them.
