Here is another collaboration beer alert – OG IPA from Kern River Brewing teamed with L.A’s El Segundo Brewing .
The details – “The goal was to wind back the clock to before things got Hazy and celebrate the California IPA before it became known as “West Coast”. Maybe we are just old-fashioned, but we still feel out about the beers people were making decades ago and raise a glass to those O.G. HOP INNOVATORS. with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo hops; piney and dank with lemony citrus notes.”
Red Ales are kinda stuck in a place where unless hopped up, they don’t get much attention. But if you are going to Double, might as well have Kern River Brewing do it and at 8% ABV, this will have some heft to it.
There is not a lot of things that CCBA could stand for (that makes sense) but Kern River Brewing has found the right combo of words to honor both the California Craft Brewers Association AND give a shout out to hang tough because California Can Beat Anything.
It is good to be reminded that there is good out there as we trudge through these virus days, so this new can release from Kern River is welcome to see.
And you can then balance the bitter with the beauty.
That is when the Citra rolls in from Kern River Brewing and also…
…a Peak Bagger collaboration with Beachwood. Gonna have to make sure I try their new JoJo DIPA to stay caught up.
It’s a long river ride from Kern to Eagle Rock but you can make the distance in one 16oz can of Raft Bier that unites the brewing talents of Eagle Rock Brewery and Kern River Brewing. We need as many pils (hoppy or regular) for what may be a hot summer here in SoCal.

Time really does fly. It seems like yesterday, it was my birthday month and now I gots to be buying gifts for others. Selfish. I know. But maybe I will get the next round of b-day people some beer. Like these…
~LIGHT
Kern River/ Gravity Check SIPA 4.0% ABV
“Session IPA with Mosaic. Do you like doing stuff? Yeah, we do too. We designed this beer for people like us who don’t want their beer to get in the way of a good time; people who drink beer for the taste. This Session IPA blends the lightness of Pilsner malts with enough Mosaic hops to satisfy even the biggest hop head.”

Fremont Brewing/ Lush IPA 7.0% ABV

Scaldis/ Prestigue de Nuits Oak Aged 13.0% ABV

But Prestige de Nuits is made of Scaldis Noel aged in Bourgogne barrels from the world famous “Nuits St. Georges” vineyard. The result is an ale of extraordinary complexity and depth. “

We travel north of Los Angeles to Kern River for our next holiday beer….
“As the Kernville temps dip our spicy rye Winter Ale warms up the taps. It gets its kick from rye but has plenty of hops to balance out the malt.”
Blue Palms hosted Kern River Brewing last night. And for awhile, their Facebook event page just had Class V, Just Outstanding, Golden Trout pale and the new pumpkin beer (which is reviewed by me, today). 
But I knew that they would probably have the famed Citra DIPA as well. And I was right. 6:30 came and so did our goblet with one of my favorite beers in it. 
It is just a tropical fruit explosion especially in the aroma. Personally, I wouldn’t call it a Double because it is so light and effervescent with just a touch of bitterness. I have only had this twice now and each time I am pulled in two directions. Savor every last drop slowly or greedily drink in all the goodness.
As mentioned, there were other Kern beers last night. Including the Golden Trout pale ale which was new to me. Utilizing the Galaxy hop, this was a solid pale. It is such a different flavor profile from Citra. To me there is a somewhat metallic harshness to it. But a nice hearty beer.
