Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

In general, I have not liked the Evil Twin Brewing labels of late. Haven’t seen much on shelves so I can’t really give an opinion on the liquid itself. They have seemed too arch by half or seemed like an in joke that I couldn’t fully grasp.

But the above label hits just the right sarcastic tone for me and though the name doesn’t inform the casual buyer that inside is a Triple IPA, I certainly would like to hand these bottles out to city officials and developers here in Los Angeles who value amenities and high-priced condos over building a wide-range of dwellings.

Not that they would get it but it would make me feel better.

Compote Yourself

Usually the Mikkeller and Evil Twin beers are a bit out of my price range but for rhubarb, I will make an exception if I find it in the cooler. Rhubarb pie is one of my favorites and this beer had me thinking about having some pie and soon.

Beer Label, Book, Both?

Evil-Twin-Food-Beer
A like the meta nature of the label from Evil Twin for the companion beer to the book Beer & Food which are also companions since many people now know that beer is much more versatile with food than other beverages.

And the beer itself sounds intriguing as well. Maybe a future, A Book & A Beer post.

Sean Suggests for June 2012

The beers to buy for June all came off a recent e-mail list of what is available at one of my local beer buying stops Red Carpet, here in sunny Glendale, CA.

So click the links (may take two clicks depending upon the browser) and either head to Red Carpet if you are in L.A. or go to your store of choice and support craft beer from two gypsy brewers and a beer that has traipsed all over the globe.

New to cans

Coming soon (depending on your market’s thirst for beer), you might be seeing some beers you are used to seeing in bottles in canned versions.

1) “Kona Brewing Company has announced plans to offer its flagship Longboard Island Lager in 12-ounce cans, which are scheduled to hit shelves mid-March 2012. All Kona markets will receive Longboard cans, including the newest markets of Pennsylvania, Delaware and southern New Jersey.”

2) Sierra Nevada has been Facebooking it’s pale ale progress towards cans too.

3) Evil Twin Brewing will release its first beer in cans in 2012. Hipster Ale and Bikini Beer will be first up. Brewing will happen in South Carolina (North Carolina is probably too busy) It will be part of the Twelve Percent Import line.

Without You….

Evil Twin and Mikkeller have some serious creativity. Though the label is boring the name of this new sour ale is pretty cool.

I am hoping that 12%, the importer can bring the beers over here in good condition. And then I hope they can make it to LA.

Would be cool to have a Mikkeller. Evil Twin taste off.

Beer in the LBC

First excursion to Long Beach in a long while but when you have Beachwood and Congregation within spittin’ distance of each other than it is easier to make the trek from valley to sand. Especially when a designated driver is involved. (Thanks Jennie!)

First stop was Beachwood BBQ…..

…for house beers to go with brisket and blue cheese grits….

…my first Beachwood beer was Reckless Session ale….

…but before that was a trio of Evil Twin beers Ryan the Beaster Bunny saison, Before, During and After Christmas DIPA and my favorite, Biscotti Break….

Then it was a stone’s throw (literally you could throw a stone from one to the other) to Congregation Alehouse….

…to gaze upon the multitude of taps…

… I settled on a Blue House IPA from El Segundo. Second time tasting in two days. A new favorite is found!
