Open House

FinalLogo_200x207This is a great idea that needs to be imported to Los Angeles.  (All of California might be too big of an undertaking to start).  It is the Open House for Washington Beer.  Once a year, as the website puts it, “Participating brewers have some tasty treats in store for you—ranging from rare barrel tastings and new seasonal releases to savory food pairings and other unique surprises.”

I think that is super cool.  Toss in some swag like stickers or a discount for tweeting or Untappd’ing a beer and you could pull in the curious and our adventure minded.  Maybe as a kick-off to L.A. Beer Week.

Oh and if you are in Washington today, take advantage!

Beer Academy

Readers of this blog will know that I frequently post about beer-y items that Pete Brown has talked about previously and today’s post is no exception. We head to Canada and the Beer Academy.

According to their website they are “a small-batch craft brewery, a tasting room and beer shop, and an inviting beer café where guests can relax with their favourite pint. The venue also features an experiential event space that includes a sensory tasting bar, a beer-lover’s library, and a tribute to the history of the world’s greatest beverage.”

Abigaile

Hermosa Beach has another spot for beer, made in the South Bay too by a Stone Brewing alum no less.

Abigaile’s on Manhattan Avenue proudly pours the following brews:
Orange Blossom Blonde (orange blossom honey-dried orange blossoms) abv 4.7 /
West Coast Pale Ale abv 5.8
Imperial IPA (falconer’s flight dry hop) abv 8.4
Brown Sugar Porter (brown sugar, chocolate wheat malt) abv 6.8
Bourbon Barrel Aged Strong Ale (honey, vanilla beans, charred oak) abv 10.2 / (10 oz)

All crafted by Brian Brewer who has done brewing stints not only at Stone but at Riverside Brewing as well and his philosophy for beer making is “Bring only the freshest, high quality ingredients to the process.”

Looks like I have yet another place to visit.

Australian Brewery # 1 – Feral Brewing

Our initial stop on our tour of Australian craft breweries takes us to the alliteratively named Feral Brewing Company.

As was the case with the previous two breweries on this itinerary, the details are courtesy of the Crafty Pint. THE place to go for Australian craft beer information.

What jumped out at me other than the marvelous name was the barrel aged Hop Hog beer. Just sounds like a grand experiment. Though the Runt beer sounds good too.
