Featured Review – Malum from Brewery Rex

Our non-themed featured reviews rolls on with a Belgian Golden Ale from Tyler King and Brian White and their new Brewery Rex.

My first ever beer from this brewery pours a pretty dark yellow with nice little bubbles rise up from the bottom of the glass. Aroma has that Belgian ester going for it with a sort of banana and toast flavor. Carbonation and hops offset it a bit. There is a strong sticky taste at the center and back. A bit harsh though with a salt-esque (savory-ish) end.

Lagers Only – Part 2

In two days time, you can sip on a plethora of lagers AND hear the story behind them at Lager Your Head.

The event will be held at Barbara’s at the Brewery and on hand will be Bob Kunz of Highland Park Brewing, Mark Jilg from Craftsman, Brian Thorson from Chapman Crafted and Tyler King from the new Brewery Rex.

Brewery Rex

News on the Brewery Rex front dropped recently with an announcement of the first beer releases from the upcoming Tyler King/Brian White helmed brewery. Without further ado, here are the initial pair and then the next in the pipeline….

Current Releases:
Cerveza El Whaler – 5.1% Mexican Light Lager brewed with over 30% corn. Serve with a lime!

Malum – 6.7% Hoppy Belgian Golden Ale dry hopped with Amarillo, Centennial & Motueka

Upcoming Release:
Belgian Stout with Blackberry – a small quantity of this beer is intended to be bottled and be sold exculsively online.

Two of those descriptions would be not out of place in a Bruery press release which leaves the Cerveza as a possible branching out point. Though it is hard to read too much into an initial beer release.

I will certainly be on the look-out for these beers on tap.
