Needed or Not? – Switch Bottle Opener

Now-a-days, you are either popping a can top or hacking your way through a waxed seal. Bottle caps are just not part of the current craft beer scenario.

Which leads to the switchblade without a blade but a bottle opener instead. The customization is cool but I do not need to carry one more thing around that I would probably not use. And more than likely, I would forget the one time it could be used.

So, not needed though a good idea.

Helpful or Not – December 2017 Edition

There seems to be a never-ending supply of beer gear that comes down the pike. I am usually skeptical. All a beer geek really needs is a glass and bottle opener. (and even now with so many cans on the market, the latter isn’t needed all the time)

So, let’s put two new items into the Thunderdome and decide. Useful or Not?

First up is the SixOverOne, which answers the unasked question of why can’t I open a six-pack all at once. Unsurprisingly, I can’t really see the home use for this. Is there a need to open bottles faster than one at a time? Are your friends really that desperate for a beer? Either way, better friends might be the answer instead. I was trending downward on this item and then I saw the price, $22.00. That settled the question. Not useful.

Next up is The Bevometer. What you would get if an old calculator was jammed into a beer koozy (ie)
It seems a little old school in a Pong sort of way. You put a new can into the koozy, then it adds to the number of drinks in your current session, as well as all time.
One of the quotes from the website is: “show friends who can put down the most…” now, granted it contrasts that with keeping track for health but it still seems a little simple. I can make tick marks on a post-it faster plus I already have way to many koozie’s lying around unused. Another Not Useful.

Want to open beers instead of inciting warfare? The Manual has a handy bottle opener for you.

And you can crack open beers during the remaining debates to keep up with whatever drinking game you have devised around our military policy. If they even talk about it.

Personalized Bottle Opening

As a beer geek, I have a few bottle openers.  Not as many as I have taster glasses.  But let’s just say, that I have one holding my keys.  For emergency only, obviously.  But now I have the ultimate, thanks to Custom on It, who reached out to me earlier this month, I know can professionally open my bottles!  All the while, gazing fondly on my logo.

As you can see (and will see in many photos from now on), it shows off a logo pretty well, doesn’t have to be mine.  Might make good Christmas gifts for the beer geeks in your life.  And after my Consumer Reports type testing, I can say that it opens bottles like a champ!

Magnetic Beer Bottle Opener

Unless you only drink your craft beer from cans or large cage and corked bottles, you need a bottle opener. I myself have at least 6 or 7 floating around including one on my keys. But even with that plenty, I coveted this magnetized cap remover.

It’s clever and has that “how does it work?” cool factor. Plus if there are enough caps on it, it has the appearance of art. Plus it doesn’t scream frat house chic. Looks like something the beer geek would use unlike an opener that has Three Stooges yelling at you.
