A Podcast & A Beer – Tagline

Advertising is mostly utilitarian or, frankly, crap but some ads pop into the national consciousness. The story behind the ads that do click is the remit of Tagline. How do they come together? And the very first episode is about a beer, Dos Equis and The Most Interesting Man in the World.

How an SNL sketch and a song about George Washington proved the inspiration for a pair of writers bored with a client who seemed impossible is a great back story. Just the fact that this series of spots has two taglines is great.

You can grab a Dos Equis but I would say that you should go to a bottle shop and look for the most interesting label in the cooler case. Then look at why you find that interesting. Is it the color? The font? The information?

A Podcast & A Beer – No Such Thing as a Fish

I was pointed to the No Such Thing as a Fish podcast by beer buddy, Richard and it is quite the fun show. Hosted by Dan Schreiber with James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray and Anna Ptaszynski the podcast give some you the facts. Four facts each show that the panel then add to until you have learned quite a bit about mosquitoes for instance.

The group has great fun and loads of camaraderie which makes the podcast fly by super fast. Perhaps as fast as a Russian train.

Now a beer from Dogfish Head would easily fit the bill, I would say that it would be best to pair a single style of beer and then take an internet deep dive to find some facts about it. Fun things about Louis Pasteur or the mob visiting Brooklyn Brewery or about the failed Wolfgang Puck brewery in Los Angeles.

A Podcast & A Beer – From Now

I generally focus on non-fiction when it comes to this monthly feature but to start off the year, let’s go into outer space. Here is the logline: “a lost spaceship named USS Hope returns to Earth after 35 years, one shocking lone survivor disembarks—and chaos almost immediately ensues.” Starring the voices of Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden and Brian Cox from Succession.

Now, you can find many a beer with a space theme but I would suggest that you look for IPAs with Galaxy hops as the lead. Maybe compare and contrast a West Coast version vs a hazy one.

A deeper cut would be to drink beers from breweries that are older than 35 years. See how those “surviving” breweries are doing.

An even deeper cut would be this….

A Beer & A Podcast- The Christmas Podcasts Podcast

I like me some Christmas and I really need it this year but I would never think to listen to a Christmas based podcast. But, if you want to get really meta and listen to a podcast about other podcasts and those podcasts are Christmas themed then the aptly named Christmas Podcasts Podcast will give you your fill of Santa.

Obviously two California Ur Holiday seasonals should be the choice here. Get an Anchor and a Sierra Nevada Christmas beer and find some cheer in a very bad year.

A Podcast & A Beer – Creating Cashflow

Upfront, the creator of this podcast is my much better half so I am biased about this month’s choice for podcast listening. But I think that it might be of great help to all those in the craft beer world struggling mentally with financial challenges.

This soothing podcast gives good advice and hope in equal measure and even if it does not send you on a path to starting a multi-millions dollar career path, it will give you insight that will help you navigate through the tough situations in life.

Two episodes are currently available on all the major platforms or you can head to her website for info.

My wife does not drink, she is the best designated driver. So for this podcast how about having a Hop2O or HopTea instead.
